As far as yielding, I thought the ambulance could run the light. I know its that way in NC, and failure to move over can earn you a ticket. At the least though, he should have slowed approaching the intersection.
Not exactly, emergency vehicles across the country only ask for the right of way. They are responsible to drive in a safe manner at all times. Most departments require a full stop at negative intersections/situation, then proceeding with caution.

In this case, the medic crew is travelling much to fast and crossing the intersection much to quickly. If the person in the car is injured, then the driver of the medic would very likely face a court fight over injuries caused to the drive as he negligently/no due regard ran a red light at high speed.

Further, as a civilian you are required to yield, and can be ticketed, but that does not override the above. I suspect that the video accident will end up in a legal fight and the ticket will get dropped, I suspect.

Agreed. The video is pretty damning in that they didnt slow for the intersection. I dont think Ive ever seen one come to a complete stop before going through around here though. They always slow, look, and drive through, usually 20-25mph or so.

Not in my department, or at least, better not.

Very well explained. No emergency vehicle has the right to blow through an intersection without regard for traffic safety. I just took an online class on the Law Enforcement Training Network called Tactical Thinking: Driving Safety. There are some pretty sobering statistics in there regarding emergency vehicle crashes, and some interesting tidbits of info, too. You know those loud, annoying dual-speaker sirens that most ambulances use, that we can hear for about two miles away if we are outside? The average driver, while in his/her vehicle on the road, can't hear one until it gets within 100 feet! That's pretty scary when you're driving on a code 3 run - you HAVE to properly clear your intersections or you're bound for trouble. Thats all there is to it.
