(PV) Online community flocks to Ron Paul

I ran across this interesting tidbit about how online presence is shaping up thus far for a few candidates. So, IMO these numbers might end up developing into the new polling standard as the years pass. I suppose they could be skewed like anything else, but not many people would go to the trouble of using more than one email address to skew numbers, and Internet searches that log IP addresses to geographic area might eventually become very useful. I can see that one day folks who never saw a candidate except on TV might be visited as candidates learn where the true voting interests are geographically located. I guess they've got the states figured out, but maybe not the towns

I also find it interesting how this article points out that dollars and (questionable) polls might not show where true interests actually occur. Anyway, it's a sign of the times and the Internet seems to be the next wave in campaigning. Kind of cool if you ask me. I just hope we don't start seeing pop-ups. That might make me keep track of who annoys me the most

Online community flocks to Ron Paul

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani may lead the polls and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney might have the most money among GOP presidential candidates, but Rep. Ron Paul (Texas) clearly leads his Republican colleagues in online support, and his second-quarter fundraising figures will reflect this, the campaign said Friday.

Paul leads all Republicans in YouTube channel views with nearly 2.1 million, according to the popular video website. The next closest Republican is Romney, who has fewer than 700,000 channel views. Only Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has more among all presidential candidates, with close to 5.2 million.

But Paul’s communications director, Jesse Benton, pointed out that the Texan’s channel has been up and running only three months, while Obama has had a YouTube channel since September of last year.

Among YouTube channel subscribers, Paul is blowing away all competition, with 19,328 as of Friday morning, more than twice as many as Obama.

The Texas lawmaker also leads the GOP field in Facebook supporters and MySpace friends.

Benton credited Paul’s message with the online success, saying it is “really connecting with voters.”

Although Paul is widely viewed as an also-ran, the online support is translating in a bump in the polls, according to the campaign. In addition, several factors also contribute to Paul’s under-performance in traditional polls, Benton said.

For example, the Texas lawmaker has a lot of young followers, many of whom do not use landlines anymore and are not captured in telephone polls.

When the campaign releases its second-quarter fundraising figures, likely on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” on Sunday, Paul’s increasing popularity will become more evident, Benton said.
Contributions from April to June will be “significantly higher” than the $640,000 that Paul had raised in the first quarter, Benton added.

I believe that the biggest advantage to the Internet in this regard, is the diversity of opinion. While the "Ministry of Truth" formally known as the Mainstream Media, would like your views to be completely controlled by them and their corporate entities.
We see this in the obvious bias shown Paul in polls and major media outlets. Many of these biases can be seen here...

MSM manipulation? Check this out. Click each link, note the date at the top, then scroll all the way to the bottom and look at the dates as you read up the list. It's kind of interesting. I love censorship It seems the more it occur's the better he does. Heck look at Iowa, some people just don't get it

After the Republican debate on june 5th, CNN.com had a blog entitled "Who Won?". The overwhelming majority of comments left on that blog said that Congressman Ron Paul had won the debate.

Well it appears that CNN did not like all the comments that were left by the Ron Paul supporters because somewhere around 11:05 Central time they took down that blog and started redirecting to a blog of the same name that was posted on June 3rd for the Democrats debate. Here is the link for the Republican debate blog posting http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/06/05/who-won-the-debate/ and here is the link to the democratic debate blog http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/06/03/who-won-the-debate/ .

Is CNN trying to silence Ron Paul supporters. You be the judge.

Paul attracts people the same way a car wreck does. They like to see the spectacle. But ask them if they want any part of it and they'll tell you hell no.

That's why he doesn't move in the polls.

Seems to me the only place I see people talking about Ron Paul is here in this forum.
I don't see any one any where else talking about him.

Below are two other forums, and a quick search on the Internet will turn up many more along with news articles and OpEd pieces. The real question is why is no one talking about the other candidates. It started out this way (at XDTALK), but one individual turned this into a personal playground of Ron Paul bashing and is driving a cause that is still unfolding. We started talking about the different candidates when the old PV section was active. After it's closing (old PV) and the allowance of topics with PV in the title of Chatter Box it has been a little slow getting started. So perhaps if others would offer articles about their candidate of choice, we could all learn something.

FWIW, my initial involvement in the old PV section centered on learning more about the candidates and the system of laws we are governed by. Yet lately it appears to have evolved into a back and forth battle of wills.

So perhaps someone will offer up another candidate for discussion, or, maybe not
