I lived there for 2 years while I was in college and still go back to visit friends every few months. I agree, Museum of Science n Industry is cool, esp. the captured German U-boat tour. I will warn you if you are claustrophobic, don't take that tour. The Shedd Aquarium is one of my favorite places on earth. The field museum at Soldier Field has rotating collections and some are cool while some are pretty lame. The art museum in impressive. If you are staying downtown, there are a number of restaurants you need to try, but I'll hold off mentioning them until you figure out where you are staying. There's plenty to do outside of town too. A good fun "knight" can be had out in Schaumburg, at Medeival Times. You are fed a decent meal and you have a bit of a show including horse show, joust, free flight falconry, and a sword fight. The acting is not the greatest but just kick back and enjoy it for what it is. It's almost always breezy downtown so no matter when you go, pack a slightly warmer set of clothes for the evenings. As roger said, any questions, call me. There are several members on here from the chicago area. I've met several of them, all quality folks so far.
When do you ship out?

Eli's Cheescake, Garrett Popcorn is pretty famous, AWESOME popcorn, if you go north to Gurnee, there is Gurnee Mills Mall (Huge), Great America. OHHH yea you got to get you a Chicago style Pizza. Man you are in for a treat. Chicago pizza. I think it was Gino's pizza that was pretty good, and there was a place that you could get a pizza at 5am delivered even.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Millennium Park. Check out this website. This place is VERY cool. It's downtown. http://www.millenniumpark.org/
I second the suggestion about seeing the Cubs play. It's great. You can take the El right to Wrigley Field. It's a great and exciting town. If you like the blues, Chicago has great blues clubs. The hotdogs are tasty. Lake Michigan is beautiful. My brother lives in a suburb and I have thought about moving there. But the weather is pretty nasty in the winter. No, it is not windy all the time. I spent a winter in Chicago. Didn't matter what I wore, it was cold to the bone. That damn wind blowing off of the north shore... I always said that a while back, a group of people decided NY wasn't cold and dirty enough, so they moved west and started Chicago.
I hope that helps. Seriously, you're going at a good time - not so cold. One of the best memories I have is during that January - I was with a Med Sales company up there at the time, they were shooting a new med supply catalogue. But they wanted it to be different. They wanted to have girls in bikini's holding - modeling- the equipment. Soooo at 4am, on a Saturday morn - it was dark and about 3 degrees - wind chill was below zero, they had girls in bikini's on the water's edge posing for pics. They had huge kerosene foreced air heaters - and these girls all wrapped up in thick huge parkas. They'd use guys bundled up to set up the equipt - test the lights with them, focus the cameras, mark the positions ect.. then when they had everything ready they'd callout and the girl for the scene would shuck her parka, RUN, and I mean RUN to the postiion, grab whatever and for 5 seconds try to ignore she was literally freezing to death. It was, uh, cold enough, that they had to retouch every pic... it was a funny, funny morning. Hope your time is as enjoyable! |
