Looking for Rifle Bench Rest Plans (DIY Project)
Currently, when I shoot on the farm at 100 yards I'm laying prone on a trailer pulled by a tractor.... Hey, may be crazy but it "works"...
I'm looking to go one step further. I want to sit and shoot without having to haul a huge trailer not to lay in the mud. I considered looking for some used picnic tables to sit at and shoot.. But, I think the height may be an issue. The picnic table top will sit too low, thus making me crouch, which I don't want to do... SOOOO ... To my point I'm looking for "Build it yourself" type plans for a sitting shooting bench. I've searched the web without success, but when I try different searches (Bench, rest, rifle shooting) I get all kinds of crazy results and nothing I'm looking for... Any suggestions?

If you are half way crafty with wood working, make a table that is truely level and flush. Then when you make or buy a rest make sure it has legs that you can adjust to make it level. All ground is not level. If you have a welding machine & cutting torch you can fab one out of metal and that would be the best.
I made a pistol rest and a front rifle rest some time back out of metal and it works like a charm. Adjust for level and adjust for height of the gun so the butt can sit on the platform. If I use mine for the rifle then all I have to do is get a couple sand bags for the butt and works great. Or you can use a sand bag for the front rest and fill a tube sock up with small peas or rice or even sand and stick it under the end of the butt for support and it will help with elevation once you have it zeroed. A level shooting surface is the key.
