Prayers requested. kinda long.
So I've hinted at this several times over the last couple weeks but the time has finally come. A cancerous tumor was found in my mothers colon. why they don't just call it colon cancer is beyond me. This was found by accident. My mother has had health problems for many years. starting out of college with a broken back she has had one knee replaced, several back surgeries, and this is her official 10th major surgery.
Because of her severe back pain she has been trying to find a pain drug to help her get off some rather nasty ones she's on. One of them caused a reaction that landed her in the hospital a couple months back (non-emergency). Long story short they figure out her blood count is equivalent to being two pints low. Obviously they want to know where its going so she has every test done under the sun. Eventually they decide the only thing left is the gastrointestinal check. they obviously found something. The good news is according to all the testing done so far it doesn't look like its spread anywhere else. It also appears to be in the early stages. Projected outcome is good with returning to (almost) normal life and living for many years to come. Now the bad news. Obviously there is still the chance once they get in there it will turn out worse than was expected from the MRI's, CT scans, and ultrasounds already done. The other problem is its location. It appears to be to close to...well lets spare the details. It could mean she will have to get a colostomy temporarily (for sure) and possibly permanent one. It's not a pretty thought to have to go through life with one of these. Luckily she realizes the alternative could be death by cancer. Why am I telling you this? The point is we were damn lucky. This should not be a life threatening event if all goes to plan. However because it was caught by accident this could be turning out a lot worse. So boys and girls. Get your checkups done. Especially if something doesn't seem "right". Because there is higher risk of ovarian cancer in someone in her position she is also getting a hysterectomy at the same time. With being through ten surgeries before we don't expect any complications but prayers to whoever it is you pray to would be great. Sorry to tell you guys all this admit idly "gross" subject. However as she has been going through this and trying to research on the internet she was struck by how little people are aware of the dangers as compared to say breast cancer. So I'm doing my part to pass on the info. Thanks in advance and a long healthy, happy life to you and your loved ones.

Beardman2,
My prayers will be with you and yours. Just tell her that God is on her side, and so are we. Thanks to God, they found that. Jmanwit

Sounds like your Mother has already had more than her share of problems. Our prayers and best wishes go out to both you and your Mom.
