I maybe moving to the Houston area...
Any input would be greatly appreciated. My in-laws live in Friendswood and we would most likely look in the same area. How are the schools and crime rates?

Just like any other large city HIGH CRIME RATE plenty of action IF YOUR A COP Just load up & keep a weapon within reach. I have lived in the houston area for 52 years seen it go from Bad to worse ! "GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND"

I moved to Houston from the NYC area 7 months ago. The further north you go the safer it is IMHO. Friendswood area is nice but it is very close to the coast and any decent size hurricane can be risky. Living near or in the loop is Crime central. I live in Spring which is about 25 miles north of downtown Houston. Much nicer up here.

Friendswood has a good buffer zone from the nasty urban sprawl so prevalent up to the north, thanks to Exxon owning all the surface between Friendswood and Houston. And what was truly one of the best resturants I've ever eaten at. It's called Killen's, and it is the antidote to the cookie cutter chain steakhouse. But personally, there isn't enough money or family to make me live anywhere around Houston.

Lots of nice areas around Houston to live.
Friendswood just happens to have one of the areas best ranges as well, PSC. http://www.psc-range.com/ Thanks for the plug agalindo! Feel free to post over on our forum, we have members in most areas around town that would be happy to answer your questions.

friendswood, clear lake, sugarland. just to name a few upscale places. every upscale place has their downs also. true the farther north you go the less dense the population is but crime is everywhere in Htown. i lived in the not so glamorous Southwest area for almost 5 years or so and never witnessed anything dramatic. dont get me wrong people were getting killed and robbed around the area where i lived but its not like it happened all the time. i always kept my XD close but never had to be put in a situation where i had to or felt like i should have drawn it. houston is a great place to live, and the TXDPSA members are the best friends to have there. Texas Land and cattle mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, also pappadeaux's mmmmmm seafood.

I must be naive because I never knew Houston was such a "tough" place to leave.

Makes me like living in suburbia.
