Springfield pushes out alot of XD's does that mean they don't go threw quality control?? I run sporting goods for a Wal-mart and all guns go threw the same quality inspection as the local shop down the street. Just cause Wal-mart buys in bulk doesn't mean Remington,Mossberg,Ruger, Berreta, etc. are going to risk price-for-quality....I think it's time to find a new dealer since he is blowing smoke. If your interested in long guns go to Wal-mart

I spent 10 years there. the guns are just as good the factories would not release them otherwise. I got a good deal at WM once. They had a Win.12 gauge model 1300 that had fell back behind some stuff and laid back there for 4 years before it was discovered. It was mint and still in the box. It had 4 interchangable chokes and i got it for $169.00 what a steal. I sold it for nearly $300

Don't they have to inventory that stuff? You'd think a `missing gun' would send up some pretty big warning flags.

I'm guessing Walmart does a full inventory at least once a year, and I'm guessing the firearms department has to do one either every night or at least once a week. Besides, it isn't like they have *that* many firearms.

I've always been told (but not really accepted) that most "Big Box" stores like Walmart/KMart/etc. sold "seconds." The local gun store owner swears by it, but he's a jerk and charges too much anyway. Of course, all the people that have told me about "seconds" have a vested interest in me not buying their firearms.

It'd be nice to see a decent gun magazine (if there are any) investigate this claim. Anyone know if maybe there is such an article?

I worked at walmart as well for awhile selling guns. My walmart before I was hired lost a firearm as well. In the store is does rasie alarms but no one knew how or even when it was lost. Walmarts are scary as far as gun sales. The walmarts in my area ordered guns from sports south which is the same place any other gn store can get the same firearms. Walmart does have low prices but SAM W would never have went for factory seconds name one other product walmart or sams sells thats a factory second....there are none. Companies work hard to get their products into walmart becuase in almost everything they sell they are the largest retailer. Walmart is the largest retail gun seller in the nation just by sheer numbers. I am an FFL my self so I do have some insight to this. The problem is not that walmart is putting the mom and pop gun store out of business. Its that alot of gun stores spew this bs, ho many of us have went into a gun store and were told oh you dont want that or that sucks becuase of insert reason. Or when you need to have something transfered to you that you bought on line but they charge you 50 bucks. Gun stores have a lot of money in the stock they hold so they first an foremost need to sell what they have in stock not what you want. Walk into any walmart today and ask to see their special order book and you can have anything in the book within the week even if they have to transfer it from another store. Now the bad part alot of times the person behind the counter is completely stupid so if your luck you can find great deals and a compitent employee weird though I have the same complaint about the mom and pop shop good deals and compitent employes.

he's 50% right and 50% wrong

the right is yes walmart buys in large numbers and like with any other product the more you buy the cheaper you get it for therefore the cheaper they can sell it

as for it being differnet less quality bs the gun rolls off the same line as the one bought in your mom and pop store

if you guy money to burn help out the mom and pop and support their business if you are cash strapped buy like me cheapest deal you find, and if it so happenes to be walmart no worries you not getting anything less exept the price

I do a lot of business with my local dealer (transfers mostly), and I like to spend my money with him. However...he orders from one distributor for the most part, and doesn't shop price. Case in point...
I was going to buy a Savage model 93 from him and I was quoted $225.00 for the gun. Best he could do, he said. Wal-Mart had the same gun for $187.43...Not a small difference. Needless to say, I ordered from Wal-Mart.
Talked to some of the fellers on Savageshooters.com and they said that there is no difference between the Wal-mart and the gunshop.
