Didn't think you were arguing. I just think it is critical that everyone who carries a gun know the laws of their state and what those laws mean. Unfortunately, people don't take the time to fully read and understand the laws that govern them. That's how good people wind up in legal trouble. Yes, the laws are sometimes difficult to understand, but knowing exactly what they say and mean can keep help keep you from blowing your entire life savings defending yourself in court.

And I am with you on the lie on you stomach and show me you hands, but skip the rope. There is no tactical advantage to approaching the BG as that point. Distance is your friend. Just tell them in a firm voice (hopefully while you still have the 911 operator on the phone so that it is recorded) that if they attempt to move or get up you will assume that it is because they mean you harm and you will shoot them.

In Ohio "you have the duty to retreat". I would think if I caught someone stealing from my garage or shed and they take off running down the street and I held them till the LEO's showed up. I probably would end up in police station getting the third degree. After that I would probably face a civil action by the inmate for unlawful restraint and anything else they could think up.
