Shark watch, and other stories (maybe)

Here are the pics from the shark watch mentioned in another thread.

There was always someone around with a camera for "important" events like this.

Our ship's swimmer had just come out of the water and was describing a large shark he had seen. I was one of several standing shark watch and the camera guy took some pics as events unfolded. Unfortunately I only have these two, I was either not in the others or other people claimed them.

In the first pic I was just going from my relaxed pose in the doorway to full alert. I am about to try to load my Garand with a cigarette between the fingers of my right hand.

In the second I have moved the cig to my mouth, pushed the clip into the gun, and am transferring it back to my left hand as I step off toward the rail. The guy who was to my left in the first pic is now heading over to get in on the action, one officer is heading over to look over the side as another climbs to the deck above and I am not sure what everyone else was doing.

Bad-ass.

(Put %20 instead of a space in that first picture)

You said clip, you said clip, and it was a clip.

Ahh.. the memories. I wish I could back to sea... Soon soon... I remember those dungarees. I hate the new utilities. What class of ship was it? I spent 5 years on a spruance class tin can. We got some good shark bait time. especially during swim call in the Indian ocean.

We never got beer.. They always made sure of that... And it sucked... We only had a few swim calls while I was there. Although, I did get to jump off the bridgewing..
