Robbery at the Gun Show.

I had just walked out of the show. Stopped because I ran into a friend. We were outside talking. I was just walking away, and two guys come flying out the door. One older guy, the gun owner. And another guy, younger, early thirties. He was off in a sprint, and grabbed a pistol from an ankle holster. Turned out he was an off duty LEO. With-in minutes the place was flooded with cops. Not sure if he caught em'. I think so. When I finally left the show, halg hour later, there was still a large area sectioned off. They may have been searching for the guns and didn't want anyone in the area.

I overheard the LEO who was chasing the two guys down ask the gun owner what was stolen. One was a Stainless S&W .45 the other I think was a H&K P7, could be wrong on the second one.

And they wonder why I won't go to a gun show. They won't let me take my gun in even with a CHL. The NRA has a convention but you can't take a gun in even with a CHL. They want to sell you a gun but they don't trust you with it. They won't even let a cop in with a gun. Corporate stupidity, will it never end.

I know this is hard to believe, coming from Kalifornia, but I went to a gun show in Costa Mesa today (Orange county) and you just have to advise them if you have a ccw and you are in. Of course, you can just walk in and they will never know as there are no security devices that would detect any gun. But, bottom line, there are no signs saying no guns (ccw that is).

They do have security (I guess you can call them that) and more importantly, uniformed deputies ( and probably uc deputies also).

Our local gunshows are posted something to the effect that all guns must be presented to a person who will run a zip tie down the barrel. Luckily, in UT it is not illegal to ccw despite gun-buster signs, and they have no searches as you go in. I go in the door furthest from the off-duty cops in uniform and don't worry about it.

I went to one gun show and witnessed a felony assault in the parking lot as I was going in. Fortunately it ended without any gunfire, but it was getting close. The perp went into the gunshow to hide in the crowd.

That incident made up my mind that I'll always carry despite the meaningless signs.

Not only that incident, but I heard over the PA that someone had stolen a Bushmaster MX-15, serial number blah-blah-blah.

I think it is legal to CCW at the Tulsa shows. I didn't want to push my luck, so I left the ammo in the truck and put my empty XD and an empty mag in my backpack along with a .22 auto I was selling and my lunch. I had a dealer badge, so I just walked right through the dealer-only entrance with a smile and a wave to the cop standing there. Many of the dealers are carrying, the ones who are retired cops carrying openly.

Great show, but the Comp-Tac guys weren't there. Another reason I wanted my XD empty, I was going to try out their CTAC.

I am a little confused here. I think (not sure) that at the last gun show in West Palm Beach that there was a sign saying no loaded guns...which I guess makes a certain amount of sense from a safety point of view.

But if you want to bring in an unloaded gun to see if accessories fit, or to trade it in, whatever.... is that a "no-no" as well?

I mean you can buy a gun inside and carry it around (empty). Why not bring in an unloaded gun? Or is it OK? Or is it just different at different shows?

TIA

Peace,
D.

Sounds to me like anyone who puts on a gun show makes their own rules. Well two can play that game. My rule is if I can't carry at the show then I won't go. From what I have been hearing about gun shows on this forum I don't seem to be missing much.

You can bring an unloaded gun into the different Florida shows. They have a guy out in the lobby who checks them and puts a zip-tie either through the barrel or around the trigger.

emschris, which show were you at?[/quote]

You can't get into the Gun show with a CHL because of a State law. It has nothing to do with the NRA. As far as LEO's carring at the gun show. Yes they can. My bother are both HPD. They can carry anywhere, any time.
