I didn't mind Rez Dogs, but Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill movies are the most overrated crap I have ever seen. I know everyone just gushes over Pulp Fiction, but I just did not see where this film was the greatest thing. I also detest John Travolta and Bruce Willis. There were some clever one-liners here and there, but the movie barely kept me awake, otherwise..sorry.

No flame here, I totally agree. I liked Reservoir Dogs, but that's it. Both Kill Bill movies were HORRIBLE. I also can't stand the miserably unrealistic gunfights in Rodriguez's work.
Kill Bill was a gen X'er film for those who grew up in the 80's and 90's watching sunday reruns of ****ty kung fu movies and cool japanese cartoons. If you aren't in this category, you won't get it. Needless to say, I loved both of them.

Pulp Fiction may be sub-par if screened today, but you have to remember that back in '94 when it hit the theaters it was a genre-breaker. There was no other film with the glib humor, suprisingly frank and off-topic conversation by unlikely characters, and gratuitous realistic violence. For me its the off-the-wall conversations in unlikely settings that get me. "Pigs sleep and root in $hit. I won't eat an animal that doesn't have the sense to disregard its own feces", says Sam Jackson, as they casually eat breakfast after a morning of covering up the accidental killing of a cohort.

You know what I mean? To me, its infinitely more interesting than the blockbuster fodder designed to appeal to every possible demographic in order to sell tickets. "Will Smith rapping and fighting robots!" Whee! "Tommy Lee Jones and a bunch of other idiots running around for 2 hours screaming at the top of their lungs about lava!" Really? Sign me up! Pfffffft!

Ahhh, what passes for "art". Make some crap (sometimes literally), label it "art" and watch them swoon. And of course, those of us who don't "understand" or "appreciate" the crap, well, we just don't understand that crap isn't crap just because it's crap.

Never forget watching "Gladiator". Maximus quickly dispatches some gladiators and the people are disappointed that the "show" was over so quickly. He yells out "Are you not entertained?".

How much American society is like the Rome of old. A once rich and strong society that gradually decayed from the inside into the dust bin of history. We may be heading in the same direction.

Try to catch "Rome: Power and Glory" on The History Channel. So many similarities to America of today it's scary.

I'd seen the trailer but I still wasn't prepared for how cool this movie looks - the use (and non-use) of color is absolutely amazing.

As I've never read the comic books that this is based on, I can't tell you how close it follows them, but a friend of mine that saw it with me said that it follows extremely closely and he was very impressed at how well it was adapted to film.

The weaponry was also very interesting. Being a relative amateur in my knowledge of firearms, I can't give you the details here, but I was impressed with how it turned out. And Springfield was very prominently placed in the middle segment (Clive Owen looks to be packing a Springfield 1911)

Also, this is a definite not-safe-for-children movie. There is quite a bit of nudity, and some of the violence is quite graphic and brutal. But, damn, the visuals and the dialogue are so well done that you actually find yourself laughing at some of things that happen even though in another movie you'd probably cringe. My wife was even laughing at the some of the ways people got taken out.

And yes, Jessica Alba does look amazing. Now that mention it (or am I the one that mentioned it?), all of the women look very good!

Anyway, I give this a two thumbs up and 11 stars out of 10. This is definitely a movie to get the Collector's Edition when it comes out.
+1 and then some.

Sin City ... awesome movie .. if you collected/read comic books growing up then you should be able to get into it and follow the story line.

I don't know, I collected and read comic books when I was growing up and don't recall anything like it. Of course our comic books, in the 50s, were a little different.

My comic book days were also in the 50s. Superman and Batman never killed anyone. All the good guys and bad guys never killed anyone. Same on TV. Roy Rodgers never even shot anyone. On Bonanza, people got shot, but they were always nursed back to health.

I saw Sin City on Sunday night. My girlfriend was so disturbed by it she couldn't talk to me after we left the theater. I knew she was miserable during the movie...I even asked her if she wanted to leave. She said "no". I should have dragged her out....she told me later she wanted to stay because she knew I was looking forward to seeing the movie. Which was true. But it was over the top. It had it's qualities....I can see how it can be considered "art", but it was "art" I was disappointed in.

OTOH...I LOVED "Pulp Fiction". It, like "Reservoir Dogs" was all about dialog IMO. "Kill Bill" was fair. Never saw "Jackie Brown". But Quentin Tarantino is a talented guy. His dialog in "True Romance" was great.

He should stick to what he does best....which is writing great dialog. Or directing more humorous stuff and getting some of the violence off screen. A technique that works and does not alienate so many viewers.

Take out the scene in the pawn shop from "Pulp Fiction" and there really is very little graphic violence. Even when Vince and Jules shoot Bret 30 times (or whatever) you don't see Bret get hit.

Great movie! (Sorry to disagree with you Brickboy). Monologues by Christopher Walken and Harvey Keitel are the kind of writing I think makes QT a genius. He didn't even have to move the camera. It was stage play dialog. Shakespearian almost. (my $.02)

Peace,
D.

QT a genius? I dunno...that might be pushing it.

John Huston, Paul Greengrass, Ridley Scott, Terrance Malick, Steven Speilberg, Ron Howard...genuis directors...possibly, but not Tarantino.

I guess films are alot like music and we all have our opinions.

Well, Sgt. Rock killed people, but only enemies.

Going on 60 I am still angry at my parents for throwing out my comics after I joined the Navy, I think they were expecting (and probably hoping) that I would be killed in 'Nam. Worst of all they threw out my original edition of MAD magazine. Of course their list of abuses would go on for pages, but that was just pure nasty.
