Question Dog advice needed!!!!!!! Please help me!

I have a 6 month old Rottweiler puppy who weighs almost 60 pounds.

My fiance is 13 weeks pregnant and weighs 120 pounds.

I work away from home and am gone 3 days in a row, including overnight.

Jess took Zeus out tonight to go to the bathroom and he almost pulled her off her feet. He pulls me on the leash sometimes but I'm of her taking care of him while I'm gone. If we don't stop this pulling, I might have to get rid of him...

Any ideas as to how to stop him from pulling? any experienced advice welcome!

Get a short(er) leash. One has more control over the animal on a short leash. A few "gentle" (read harsh) tugs on the leash when the animal starts to pull.... always worked for my animals.

Ever see those gentle leader halters? I have a pit cross...loves to pull. Seems to work with him, yet I have heard they can get used to it over time.

We tried one of those "pinch" chokers on one of our other dogs...didn't work at all.

Trainers work wonders. Rots are great dogs, just big and can be overwhelming.

Get the muzzle leash that goes over their muzzle. We had a bullmastiff that would do the same thing.

With the muzzle leash it pulls there head to one side. They can't go forward if it pulls their head to the side. Trust me if it worked on my 130lb. bullmastiff, it will work for you.

It stops them instantly because it pulls their head back to their side. My wife who is about 125lbs. also, could walk them no problem. Good luck.

Young dogs need training, it takes patience and persistence. Take it to classes. There are a ton of resources out there, if you need help finding or implementing them, then PM me, I would be glad to help.

Also contact your breeder. Any responsible breeder would be glad to help, and would not want you dumping the dog. Start there.

Good luck

You can break him of this but it really should have started sooner. The short leash is a must. If he has a special treat that he really likes, use this as incentive. Spend a lot of time training him to walk the way you want him to (without pulling you). It will take some time but it is do-able. By spending time, I mean 10-20 minutes a few times a day. also work on sit, and the all important come and leave it during that 10-20 minutes. As he starts to get the hang of the not pulling thing, introduce the other items.

I have a small dog that we started doing this with at about 4 months (5 yrs old now). He will now do all of this and more, while looking for nothing more than a good boy in return for his obedience. Most dogs really want to please you, so be patient and work with him, but above all sit down with your fiance and develop a plan that is consistant for the dog. You don't want to confuse him. It should only take a short time to have him doing things the way you want. The real key is consistancy and lots of praise when he does right.

Be Patient & Best of luck!!!!!

Invest in some professional training right away, if you want to keep your dog.

Your lady will have zero tolerance for an unruly dog after the baby comes. And rightly so.

Well trained dogs are happier dogs

The muzzle leash is the same thing as the "gentle leader" they are suprizingly effective. You still got to train them though cause the dog will train you if your not carefull.
