DIY Tactical Light

Just saw this video, where some guy mods a $4 flashlight and makes it brighter than his Surefire E2: http://lifehacker.com/software/diy/m...ght-261114.php o_O

DIY Overclocked Flashlight—An Arsonist's Dream
Quote:
Got an arsonist in your family and have no idea what to get him or her this holiday season? Why not build an overclocked Maglite capable of actually burning objects? This Maglite hybrid uses a Osram Sylvania light bulb "overclocked" to 80 times its standard luminosity. Power the sucker up with 12 1200mV NiMH batteries and you have a Christmas tree fire waiting to happen. – Travis
Or, you can build a torch. I think its basically the same thing.

Like fire? The video is awesome.

He took a Eveready flashlight and popped in a bigger bulb and batteries for under 10 bucks.

I'll clarify a little better what he did. He took a yellow everready flashlight, I believe it used 2 AA batteries. He purchased a 9 volt krypton bulb I believe from radio shack, and replaced the bulb in the flashlight. He then took a 5/8" drill bit, and knocked the 3 little ridges out inside the battery body, which are meant to hold the AA batteries in place. this allowed 3, I believe they were CR123A batteries in there. It made the light a lot brighter, brighter than the surefire light he had to compare it to.

And if you need the tactical look, he spraypainted it black lol.

so basically what he really did was convert the light from a 3 volt, to a 9 volt and gave it a lot more power.

The army blocked a site that gives tips on being more productive?

Wait no, that makes sense.

Just kidding.

Haha yeah, the firewalls the military uses are kinda rediculous. I couldn't check my e-mail for three weeks when I was in the middle east because they blocked AOL mail. I was fighting with the tech office the entire time on that one. I only got two 15 minute calls a week, so not having e-mail REALLY pissed me off. They eventually allowed it again, but man that was a crappy three weeks.

Anyway, thats a really cool method of making a taclight. Modding a maglight on/off switch, or some kind of on/off pushbutton switch, into a tailcap switch would make it just about perfect.
