Contact your legislators. (possible influence on gun owners to do grassroots stuff)

This article mainly deals with the 1st amendment.. But I feel this has enough to do with the 2nd amendment that it can be posted. They are trying once again to stop lobbying, which could also stop grassroots organizations from spreading information. The NRA could be affected by this, GOA, SAF. Any of you who write blogs on gun issues could be affected.

So lets keep this topic off of the free speech subject, and focused on it's implications for the 2nd amendment. If people are kept from talking to eachother on an issue, because of a law.. well.. that can affect how we protect the 2nd amendment. So that's how I feel this thread is OK to post.

So contact your legislators, protect our right to share info.. specifically 2nd amendment info with eachother through groups, organizations.

(trimmed from article)... But the legislation may be amended on the floor to restrict grassroots groups that encourage citizens to contact members of Congress. The amendment, pushed by Rep. Marty Meehan of Massachusetts, would require groups that organize such grassroots campaigns to register as "lobbyists" and file detailed quarterly reports on their donors and activities. The law would apply to any group that took in at least $100,000 in any given quarter for "paid communications campaigns" aimed at mobilizing the public.
I'm sure glad those people in Congress are doing everything they can to keep me safe! Figures he's From Mass.

First off, it's kinda nice to see the 1st amendment take a hit once in a while. People think "I don't like guns, so I don't care if the 2A goes down" but this might wake some people up.

So what is the bill? If we call our congressman, and say "please vote against ... ?" what? "the Meehan bill ?

I don't know the bill number... I called and told the secretary that I want to leave a message for my congressman. I told her it was in regards to a lobbying reform bill that would limit grassroots lobbying and other ways of lobbying. She then told me the bill #.. but I forgot it.
