The company I work for jumped on the outsourcing band-wagon about 3 years ago. Customer satisfaction droped like Brittany Spears' underpants. Less than six months later we were back to in-house CS. I wish more businesses would realize it hurts more than it helps. But some times it all about the benjamins.

I'm a QA Engineer and my company outsourced my entire department, except for supervisors, this past december (nice timing). I have kept in touch with some people still there and they now have over 20 outsourced employees and over 40 contractors doing the work that previously was done by 25 of us. They work for half the price but you need twice as many workers. Doesn't make sense to me.

You may or may not believe this, but I do not deal with the Indians or any other outsourced personnel. I always ask to speak with their American Help Desk.
Believe it or not, almost all companies that outsource phone personnel have a facility in the states for people that either have a problem understanding the foreign staff, and more importantly for customers that refuse to deal with outsourced help. They also keep track of how many calls get transfered to the U.S. call center, and use those numbers to determine how many more to staff in the U.S. I have asked a credit card company to put me through to a U.S. call center. He transferred me to his supervisor, who was also Indian, but had much better dialect. She asked if she could help me. I said "yes, like I told the first guy, put me through to a U.S. Call Center". She did. Next thing you know I was definitely talking to an American in California. I told her what went down, and she THANKED me for asking ot be transfered. She said they keep records on it, and it helps them get more employees and funding.
