Anyone else dislike Snapcaps?

Oh, I like the concept and the general function, what I don't like is the aluminum construction. Aluminum is not very "slippery", in fact a lot of abrasives are made from aluminum oxide (which is essentially what the finish is on snapcaps I think). I've tried oiling/waxing, but they still don't seem to slide nicely. It's be a better product made with brass I think.

Yeah, I make my own. Just like the rounds I reload except without the powder and primers. SInce I *fully* taper crimp, they are good for many, many, many function tests. I imagine they will would outlast the plastic ones, and the cost is only about 5 cents each. (There is no cost involved with the brass case, as these are range droppings around here.)

If you don't reload, ask a friend that does. It should only cost you a beer or two for a box of 25. Better yet bring him the brass to make them out of !!

If he doesn't fully taper crimp, buy him a Lee Factory Crimp DIe (from Midway). It is about the same cost as a small handful of the aluminum snap-caps. While you are shopping at Midway, get a drop-in cartridge gage. They're handy for testing the loaded rounds for chambering specs.

Do you do anything to identify these dummy rounds? Seems like it could be trouble if you grab a live reload thinking they were for training!

He doesn't replace the primers so thats a hint!

but also you wouldn't point the gun at ne thing your not goin to shoot!! the whole point of these dummy rounds is to mix in with live rounds to discover flinches/flaws in your grip and trigger pull!

As well as dry-fire practice, say in your home.

Thanks, didn't see the part about no primers! Assumed the shot primers were just left in.

Great observation and point ot make here. I was wondering when someone would underscore this concept and purpose of the Snap Caps.

Find someone that does reloading. I've made a few dummy rounds for folks - a brass case with a primer that was already fired, no powder, a regular bullet, and crimped.
