XD Finish...
I keep on seeing it, and for some reason, it bugs me more and more.
With all of the "polishing" threads that pop up, come the critics of it, saying that it would be a bad idea and lead to rusting issues to take off the "finish". The black "finish" is NOT the Melonite treatment, which is what protects your XD from rusting. Melonite is a treatment done to the metal BEFORE the black "finish" goes on. So, there it is. The black material is NOT the Melonite protection on your XD..... Matt

The problem is not taking off the "black", it's how much extra you take off to get the polish. The melonite does not penetrate that deeply into the metal, it's more akin to anodizing aluminum I think as far as depth. So the issue is everyone is worried the melonite DOES or could come off with simple polishing. Remember, EVERY abrasive or polish takes off metal, just a matter of how much.
