Breakfree CLP ??
I have heard alot about CLP but I am a little suspicious of something that is supposed to be strong enough to remove powder, but it is supposed to lubricate the gun to ?? It just seems like it should be one or the other. What do yall think about it ?

One example oif a more modern formulation is EEZOX. It is reported to be quite good at CLP on guns BUT has some application gotchas (like turning gummy). Prolix does not have any known application issues when used on firearms and functions as a CLP. It is a more modern formulation and leaves behind an excellent DRY lubricant that scored #2 in a GREASE test. (Kinda tough to beat that kind of performance, especially since it cleans very well, and protects from rust and is safe on wood and.....yada yada yada.) Just so you know, I am the NM distributor for Prolix. I also know of other products that function as CLP for guns besides the three mentioned above. But I became a distributor of Prolix after being a satisfied user for almost 20 years. During that 20 years I tried many other products reported to be good CLPs for guns. Some were quite good, but I kept going back to Prolix as it worked as well or (usually) much better for less money. Whatever you do please find SOMETHING to put on your firearms as cleaning and lubricating is important. Last edited by para_org : 05-01-2007 at 07:51 PM. |

BreakFree is the standard lubricant for most military weapons. I use it with no reservations on all my firearms.

Works fine as an all around light cleaner and light lube. It doesn't do very well taking off copper from feed ramps or barrel grooves (which is what copper cleaner is for). It also tends to evaporate after a few months, so I wouldn't recomend it for long term storage.
That being said, I use it as my primary weapon cleaner and lube for my regularly used guns. I also use Shooters Choice Copper cleaner for my feed ramp, breach face and barrels once a month or so (I shoot twice a week so that would be after around 500 rounds.) I've just started using Wilson's Ultimate Lube (white lithium grease?) on my pistol slide rails and barrel lockup points to insure continued lubrication during high volume shooting. I also use Wilson's on my black rifle's critical points. Most x-ground pounders I know still use Break-Free out of habit like me...I'm sure there are slightly better all around cleaners out their now but hey, WD-40 would probably work just fine as well if used weekly.

I use either CLP or Rem-Oil. I can get CLP for free most times and I usually just grab a bottle or rem-oil when I'm at wal-mart. The Rem-Oil is usually thinner than CLP.

Used it in the academy with no problems. I have no reservations about using it for what it says...
I prefer to use GunButter personally, but either would be welcome in my cleaning kit.

CLP was made for the army as a one all cleaner-lubricant-protectant... it is just ok but it does really not do anything good.
We use/used it the Army, but only because that is what was issued. I myself like Hoppes #9, Honda brake rotor cleaner (it is plastic safe) or gunscrubber to clean my guns, and Hoppes or Kroil to lube my guns afterwards. One thing I like about CLP is it sticks around forever, bad part about it is that it tends to migrate alot... what I mean by this is if you store your guns upright, in like about 2 weeks you will see the bottom lower reciver soaked with CLP but the top part will be dry. Kroil and Hoppes lube seems to stay in place. |

Hate it. Too thick, gets everywhere. Just because the Army wanted to simplify their purchasing, and weight carried in the field, doesn't mean it is the best. Or even prefered. Or even good. Most "do-it-all" items don't do any of their intended purposes very well.
