I totally agree with you.

Take this for example. My friend who I have known since 1st grade is a hunter. I use to hunt, but I quit probably 12 years ago. He on the other hand hunts regularly. He owns several shotguns, rifles, and handguns. He hunts several different species.

I don't think he is an NRA member or a member of any other organization. I am going to have to confirm that, but I don't think he is.

I recently became very interested in guns once again a little over a year ago. Now it is my passion. Not only is shooting my passion, but defending our 2nd amendment rights too. As many of you know, I have been on a campaign to get "no guns" signs taken down. I've had a little success.. not huge ones, but hey.. we'll take every bit we can get right? I write my reps all the time regarding gun issues. I write comments on newspaper websites to argue anti-gun positions.

I've been a gun owner since I was probably 7 years old. But in the past year alone, I've done way more than someone like my friend has ever even dreamt of doing to defend our 2nd amendment rights. I talk gun control issues with him. He is completely amazed at the BS that some people try to pull. But guess what? he says they'll never try to take our guns. So he's not worried. He doesn't realise how badly they want to do so, and how badly they are trying.

Same goes for my father. My father is an NRA life member. He has been for probably 30-40 years. He paid his $125 back then, and as far as I'm aware the only thing he's had to do with the NRA, is receiving his American Rifelman magazine. He's never voted based on gun issues. He's never written his reps regarding gun issues. He's never done a darn thing to protect our 2nd amendment rights.

Again, in my short year time being a gun rights activist, I've done way more to protect and futher our cause than he ever could have dreamt of doing in all his years of being an NRA member.

I think when it comes down to it... too many people are blind to the truth that our 2nd amendment rights are seriously threatened. And I think too many NRA or GOA members think that just joining the group is all you have to do. WE ARE THE POWER BEHIND THESE GROUPS! The NRA can do all the stuff it wants in washington or our state capitols, but it's the members of the organizations that get things done.

people need to get off their a$$ and start defending their rights. The NRA and GOA have way too few members for as many gun owners as we have. And they have way too many silent members as well.

Just last night I was listening to the cam edwards show on nranews.com. Someone wrote in saying they were an african american male. They just joined the NRA but were hesitant on doing so because "nra members don't really like his kind". People think NRA members must just be a bunch of racist backwoods rednecks. That couldn't be farther from the truth. I'm far from country, and I'm far from a redneck. I welcome any single person into our club of gun owners. The more, the better. We've got to get our image changed so people quit thinking we're a bunch of militant freaks who think everyone should shoot every single person they don't agree with.

every single NRA member, or gun owner for that matter, that I've ever met have been very good people. The anti-gun groups have been able to tarnish our image with their lies, and it's time to change that. Maybe then more people would join.

Can't stand the NRA...

They supported the 1986 reagan ban, the 1989 bush ban and then 1994 clinton ban... until 2001 when they started calling it 'clinton ban' and begging for money.

I was once a brainwashed ditto head with an NRA card... then I woke up.

The NRA can got to hades for all I care.

Most NAR members are teh jim zombo type. They type that look at your AR or AK or your 'hicap XD9' and snort claiming only cops should have that kind of 'hardware'...

The NRA is so corrupt and money hungry they want and need gun control so they can fund themselves. Thats evidenced by their play to try and ruin the supreme court case rolling thru the DC court of appeals right now.

I have about as much tolerance for the average zumbo NRA as the average brady group member. NONE.

I'm frankly surprised our gun rights aren't much worse off with some of the stunts the NRA has pulled.

No mater what your beliefs about the NRA or ANY GROUP, NEVER Become a life member. When you do you become one of those taken for granted.

If you believe in group XYZ send them the money every year (don't be cheap), let them hear from you on EVRYTHING. Make them EARN your money every single year.

How many NRA members do you hear sayign I'm going to get an NRA lifetime because it'll save me money... Don't take the easy route... hold their feet to the fire.

I've been with the GOA since telling the NRA to go play with themselves once I found out the truth about the 1986, 1989 and 1994 bans. I also have a membership for my wife and fro Christmas I bought my Mom and Dad memberships as well. 1 year and as I tell them, you'll have to earn my money again for next year. Occasionally I send them something thruout the year, but not often.

JPFO is another orgainization I support, although not so much monetarily... I'm not Jewish, but they do more for firearms rights than teh NRA. Check the facts, don't listen the Brady bunches propoganda...

If the NRA really had any decent influcence in washington do you think that the anti-gunners would lend them creedence by talking about them?

Thinks about it, the antigunners LIE about everything! They lie about the stats, they lie about guns, gun owners... and yet you (collectively) believe them when they say the NRA has any real power in washington? HA! Thats a joke.

The media hates guns, we all know that. They LIE about dang near everything, but once again you believe them when they say the NRA has any power in washington... again I cn't help but laugh at that.

The media constantly minimizes and marginalizes anything that supports Freedom, the Constitution or gun Rights... but yet they always say "NRA sponsored... NRA lobby...."

And we call the liberals brainwashed by the media?

you don't even have to join a group to be effective. it's the people who do all the work for the NRA anyways. the NRA just gets credit for all of our work it seems.

sending emails, writing letters, making phonecalls.. that's all that we can do. and I think that's the best we can do as well. it's the only way to let our legislators know that we mean business.

GOA is a fine organization, and they are working very hard right now to stop the Brady\NICS improvement act. I will be joinging them soon, myself.

GOA needs the members, and needs the help. Our support will surely be appreciated.
