Im starting a beer thread. If you like beer or brew, talk about it here!

Im taking a few bottles out of storage right now, Ill be back in about an hour with some pics/review of a porter I bottled a few weeks ago.

In the meantime, one of the other forums has a homebrew thread, and pretty lively discussion (despite being a car forum ). Im hoping this can be the same.

Currently, Im brewing a summer ale, a batch of wine (due to be racked in Oct), and a Newcastle clone.

I've been meaning to get into homebrewing, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Love me a good brew, though. Looking forward to the review on your porter. And if you haven't already, you might checkout www.beeradvocate.com. Good site.

Best Beer I ever had was at a place in Las Vegas called Gordon Biersch.
The Beer was called Golden Export.

When I'm at home, it's a cold glass of Coors Light with some Spicy V8 mixed in.

I think maybe the best beer I've ever had was a saison that Boulevard brewed as a test brew for their tasting room on the tours. Or maybe it was just the fact that it was a 'four hour tour' where they provided as much free beer as you could drink.

Searched for that, couldnt find it I figured it had gotten deleted. Maybe we can keep this one running....

Anyhow, on to the porter:

Ah yes, nice and dark, surprisingly dark. I mixed 3# of dark extract and 3# of amber extract for this brew, so I was expecting a bit lighter. Not one to complain about brew here though! So, looking back at my notebook, OG started out at 1.047, and FG ended up at 1.006. Clarity is excellent, no real chill haze to speak of. Carbonation is, well, lacking IMO. Its somewhat flat, moreso than a normal porter. It may just need a bit more to age. The flavor is smokey at first, slightly, then a rush of chocolaty flavors. Finish is clean, smooth, not overly bitter. Id put it on the mild to moderate scale for bitterness. The only thing I cant figure out is the head. Poor head retention... and Im not sure why. It may be tied in with the low carbonation.

Overall, Id say 3/5 on this one. Not one of my best brews, not one of the worst, but very drinkable.

Hmmm... I can still see light through it.
