Well just Google it and you will see the info. As far as my experience with it...

My wife could not quite. Her mother either. She really believes that the Chantix put her over the top. She has tried other stuff too. First it helps with cravings, then it blocks nicotine receptors in the brain so if you do smoke, it doesn't do anything. It is expensive, but no more than smoking and a lot of insurance companies are covering it now. Mine did.

Now it is not a magic bullet. You still have that physical habit of smoking that you have to get over. It doesn't do anything for all that free time. However, Chantix has been getting a ton of positive press. Also my wife drives for her job and would smoke non stop at work. It was hard to stop, but she feels the Chantix really helped her. She was going to take it for 6 months, but stopped at 3 and still smoke free.

The real miracle is her mom. She could not stop even battling COPD for the last 2 years. Over 2 months now and she can't believe it. The war isn't over, but the battle is going well.

Good job!! Keep it up; I'd rather you not end up in my office on a ventilator. From first hand experience you should see the crap we dig out of peoples' lungs.......... You've definitely made the right choice

I didn't see the questions about chantix on there, chantix is a new pill that has just been released to the market recently. Chantix works by binding with and blocking nicotine receptors in your brain; when nicotine binds with these receptors they release dopamine that gives you your euphoric (good) feeling from smoking. Your body likes this dopamine release and makes you crave cigarrettes to feel it again. Chantix results in a smaller release of dopamine than nicotine does when binding with nicotine receptors; this means less euphoria and less craving. It also blocks the receptors so you don't get the high release of dopamine when you slip and smoke a cigarrete. That results in less of a reward from smoking a cigarrete and in turn you won't care to have another.

This is great in terms of the medicines that were on the market prior which worked by giving your body nicotine and then bringing that level of nicotine down throughout treatment. With chantix there is no nicotine. Which is great because nicotine is harmful and with nicotine patches and gum you can actually cause a coronary vasospasm heart attack if you slip and smoke a cigarrette (too much nicotine).

As always though, consult your physician prior to beginning any information. My post is made solely to inform you about the medication, not to reccomend or prescribe it. And if you want more information go to www.chantix.com

Me Too!

Hey Matt,

Good job on quitting. I quit too in January. As some other folks have already said, more $$$ for ammo!

BTW, we only got to use that nice shooting spot near Fountain Hills twice before we got the word from Maricopa Deputy that we should go elsewhere due to the annexation of the land.

Looking for another nice spot. The Deputy recommended off of Dynamite Road but was not specific.

Regards,

Joe

This sounds like the medication my sister has been taking to quit smoking. I will check with her to verify the name. But, it has worked for her.
