Idiot verbage on guns..anyone else detest this stuff?

"read owners manual before using"

"capable of firing witout magazine"

"retract slide to see if loaded"

"owners manual avaiable free from Strum Ruger Corp"

"danger, misuse can result in death"

There are others, but these come to mind.

Does anybody else detest this junk, cluttering up the exterior of otherwise attractive firearms? I swear, some guns today, come with "billboards" of information all over their exteriors.

I have sworn off buying certain pistols, because of this clutter and nonsense. Namely, a S&W 1911 with the annoying "capable of being fired without magazine" (well...DUH!).

I guess the lawyers have gotten ahold of the gunmakers, but if you're this stupid...maybe you ought to take up another hobby...eh?

I am so glad the XD does not have this garbage all over the outside. SIG doesn't do this either. Ruger, Beretta and S&W seem to be the worst at covering their guns with messages.

Has anybody else sworn off buying guns that have too many "idiot warnings" like these? Not only are they butt-ugly, if you cannot get this info from the manual...you have no business with such a dangerous piece of hardware.

Its bad enough that the makers have cut corners, put in plastic and cast pot metal parts where there was once steel, but now they've uglied up their donwgraded offerings with billboards of information. Awful!

Sorry..I had to rant because this bothers me to no end.

Sorry I post some of these from time to time in case there is an idiot (and there are a few here!) that can't pay attention to simple instructions like the 4 rules of firearms safety. Keep them from thinking I am responsible for there dumb mistake.

Unless you also have guns that ARE NOT capable of being fired without a magazine.....

I agree that this does NOT need to be stamped into the metal of the gun, but it should be pretty darn clear in the owner's manual. I agree that The US has gone too far down the CYA path, but if I need to defend myself, I don't really care what is written on the outside of the gun as long as it goes BANG when I pull the trigger.

but the sad thing is idiot warnings are not just on guns. The other day I was looking at lawnmowers and they had a warning that it cant be used to trim trees or bushes, it had a sticker with a guy holding the lawnmower above his head trying to trim the trees.

This warning is the result of a case down in Florida where two dim bulbs decided to use a rotory lawn mower to trim some hedges. They started it, picked it up (one on one side of the hedge, the other on the opposite side) and proceeded down the hedge. One of them slipped, the lawn mower fell and cut off his foot. They sued and collected under the context of the case that there was no warning label or notice in the owners manuals stating that the mower was not suitable for trimming hedges.

Leave it to the lawyers to figure out a way to "trim" the companies of cash while "protecting" those in the general population who may not belong there.....

Yeah, that kinda bugs me. Pretty sure there's nothing like that on the XD, although I don't have it in front of me. My P2000 has "WARNING: Refer to owner's manual" stamped into the bottom of the trigger guard, but at least it's not stamped on the slide like the warnings on the S&W M&P...

CYA????

Anyhow... To me its the verbage in general. What is wrong with a clean slide. I am planning on getting a gun for my soon to be fiance with an engraving on the slide, that is kind of hard to do with a million letters cluttering it all up.
Honestly I really don't need to know its a .45... I found that out when I bought it. The ruger I got is ugly as all get out and telling me that I can find the manual online!!! what the hell.
