Just completed CCW Class

Just finished my CCW Class at Bass Pro in Springfield, MO. Class was great, I learned a lot. Taught by a couple of Greene County Deputies. Unfortunately now I have to wait. The Sheriffs Dept. takes apps by appointment and the first opening is April 4th. Bum deal. I recommend the course to everybody whether they intend to carry or not. A lot of valuable info on gun safety, laws surrounding gun use(even if you just keep it in your home), and a good chance to interact with local LEO's and see their perspective on CCW and other issues.

Me too

Finished last night, and the XD was a champion. I've only shot about 1000 rounds total in my life, 200 of them yesterday in the class, and the XD and I won the marksmanship contest! I'm still geeked about that!

I wasn't all that thrilled with my class's textbook portion, since most was spent on firearm basics and Personal Protection In The Home, and not nearly enough on the mechanics of actually CARRYING. But the shooting scenarios were a blast!

Most amazing was how far an "attacker" can run before I was able to get two shots on paper: almost 15 yards! I need to get faster.

Now, I have to fork over another $105 to apply for the CPL! DOH!

Are CCW classes required in your state? I wished it was a requirement in PA. To me, if you are going to carry a weapon, you should be required to take a course. I think it would reduce the amount of idiots that carry without having a clue.

I very much agree with you. You're right down the road from me. I live in Spring City.

Here in Nebraska, yes, you must pass a State Patrol certified course...which is pretty easy. Basic gun safety, threat avoidance/recognition, and knowing the laws of where you can/can't carry and how to hand official contact with LEO's, emergency personel, etc.

the range test was easy...30 rounds, 21 need to hit within the scoring ring (FBI target, like a fat bowling pin), from distances ranging 3'-21'. They were more concerned about people showing proper safety at the range...but everyone qualified in one attempt.

Yep, required in Michigan. I just think the fees are outrageous. It prices out a lot of low income folks who need to carry where they live and work.

A class is required in Missouri before you make application through your local sheriffs office. After taking the class I am a firm believer in the process, I just wish it did not take so long to get an appointment to even start the application, but I guess patience is a virtue..........

Sheriff's office called today to tell me my CCW application is ready for pick up. No I have to sit for the 3 day holiday weekend and wish I had checked my messages earlier. So many things I need to do. Go holster shopping. Go holster shopping. Go holster shopping. By Wednesday I will be a full fledged CCW card carrying individual.
