Annoying Hollywood gun handling.
So I was watching Jerico tonight. Jake was laying in wait, and to announce his presence, he racked his slide. Now, I'm a rookie, but even I know to I should have my gun ready to fire if I'm waiting to shoot someone. The kicker is that his gun was a DA. I think it was a Ruger, so he didn't even need to rack the slide. (Unless he didn't have one in the chamber, again, stupid.)
I know I'm a little anal, but stuff like that irritates the crap out of me. How about the ever popular stand up and wait for each other to put a gun in each other's face so it is a stand off! God I hate that. Why not just shoot your target from your hip as you move? I hate the stand off. Completly unrealistic. Am I the only one?
Discuss.

Dude... it's entertainment.
Kind of like Unix in Jurassic Park.

I used to work at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum in Louisville, Kentucky... There is a whole exibit dedicated to the mistakes that Hollywood makes with firearms... you would be supprised just how vast it is... But, their job is to entertain you, not be accurate with the firearms... as long as it goes boomb, they did their job.

the one problem I have with that... is many people emulate what they see on screen. What hollywood does sometimes.. many people take that to be the truth.. to be the correct way of doing things. Why do you think so many people fear good people carrying guns? because in the movies they always have people whipping guns out over every little issue and threatening someone, acting like they are rambo or something.
Too many people, with certain things in movies.. don't know how to tell the truth about what should really be happening. Many people think when cars crash they automatically explode.. or automatically flip up into the air. How many times have you seen a real car being involved in a real fire.. and actually explode right away? they usually just burn.. but even cops say.. it's gonna blow!! but it sits there and burns.. unlike in the movies.
I know hollywood's job is to entertain us. But with dangerous things such as guns... the least they could do is proper safe gun handling and quit portraying guns in movies as bargaining tools. People do copy what they see on tv.. so for hollywood being so anti-gun.. they could sure do their part by showing guns being used properly and safely more often.

I could understand what you are saying, and frankly, I agree... I was just stating what their job is seen as... I think they should be ALOT safer with that sort of thing too. Its also like when they shoot cars in the movies..... it is near impossible to make a car blow up, or even catch fire from shooting it...but I guess for hollywood, it wouldnt make good entertainment to just show holes. Completely agree with you though.

That's awesome My gripe is that a lot of it is not needed for the story. Like the example I gave. He could have just pulled back the hammer on his DA. That's a cool gunslinger move. I certainly know it is entertainment. I like movies, but to me it is the realism that make the fantasy so cool.
Fluffy shootem up movies are good too, because we know they are unrealistic. I hate movies that are in a "real" setting that are not real. Take Collateral for instance. I'm no Cruise fan, but he played a good shooter in that movie. If you take what he did as real, he is far and away a much better shooter than me. He should be, he's a hit man. However, in most movies you just see stupid cowboy/thug stuff.
Could you imagine a movie that was completly real about a S.E.A.L. team? A S.W.A.T. team. Real fireless explosions and acurate tactics. The skill and precision of highly trained individuals. That would be awesome. Look at Saving Private Ryan. The way the bullets hit, the rounds flying, the fireless explosions. Awesome stuff.
Oh ya, am I the only one that counts rounds when people shoot?
