For those of you more knowledgable than I..
I am looking to buy a new car. I am looking into the MazdaSpeed3. Its a 4 cylinder turbo charged car. There are 2 different cars of this model. There is the regular Mazda3 5 door, typical 4 cylinder. Then there is the sportier, faster MazdaSpeed3 5 door.
Now, I know 4 bangers are typically cheaper to insure, but does the turbo classify it as a sports car? I am not positive, but I thought I heard that 'sports cars' are more expensive to insure. Anyone have some insight on this? I know, I know, nothing to do with firearms, I appologize. Thanks. |

It depends on the insurance company. Like for bikes some compaines go by engine size. Others go by type of bike ect.
One company may not care that it's turboed and just charge you rates for a 4.cyl econo box other may see it diffrently.

Insurance rates differ radically based on many factors such as age, location, vehicle, driving record, amount of coverage, etc. Just call your current insurance agent and check on the rates for each of the vehicles. Only way to know for sure. Anything else is merely generalities and speculation. It may be, that even if the turbo is more expensive to insure (and it generally will be) that depending on a whole lot of other factors, the insurance costs may still be within your budget.

In my experiance, and as someone who used to be very much into Hon-duhs when I was younger (
The mazdaspeed 3 is a VERY quick little car though. My sister drives a regular mazda 3 with the 2.3L engine and a 5 speed, and that thing scoots for it's size. Add a turbo and wheeeeeeeeeeeee...lol I'm sure you're going to be looking at higher rates. Turbos = fast, and insurance agents know that. I was looking at rates for a WRX STI, and it was over $1200 for six months with $1000 deductibles! Whereas I can insure both my Yukon and my wife's Explorer for that much, with $250 deductibles.

I've actually looked at that particular ride myself.
Just give your insurance carrier a call and get a quote. Mine will just ask a few general questions (how many miles a year will you drive, will you use it for racing, where will it be garaged, etc.), and then give you a good-faith estimate on your premium. It takes minutes and saves you the sticker shock after the deed is done. ETA: just like deepdiver told you before I repeated everything he said.

You can also go online and get free rate quotes from either progressive or Geico.
I like Geico's online system. You can choose different options in order to tinker with the price. Frank

Your not going to know untill you call your insurance agent as theres lot to do with what premiums are on cars, they look at things like most stolen, as well as replacment parts, and payout per model. Then look at you and your driving record as well as things like age, marital staus etc. Everything I own has turbos and my sports car- eclipse is actually cheaper then my Turbo Deseil truck- CTD Ram 2500.
