what is this for?
I was just browsing this site which I look at a lot because the have a lot of cool stuff but I want a holster, just a uncle mikes to clip on my belt when I take it out to shoot but I cant find any in the $20-$30 range and my local gunstore has em for around $25 and i was sure I could find one online for cheaper...

Thats a lanyard.It will keep you from dropping your XD in the bottom of a lake or a really deep hole.
