Eye Problem. Weird post.

Some of you may think this is a weird post, but it is a problem that I have that has become worse over the years that is really affecting my shooting.

A few years ago, I started seeing tons of "strings" and "cobwebs" in my vision. No, I am not taking acid or anything. They are called floaters. I have seen countless eye doctors, and he says they are no problem. He says they are naturally occuring and benign. They float around inside the eye, and can block parts of your vision.

This can be a bit frustrating when trying to focus on the sights of a firearm when shooting.

Anyone ever experience these?

Sig, sorry to hear about your problem. I've never heard of this, but my grandfather has macular degeneration. His vision kept getting worse and I even painted the bead on his shotgun white, but it finally got the best of him. After 70 years of shooting, he doesn't want to anymore because he might hit something that's not supposed to be shot.

I hope you find out what it is and get it taken care of!

Thanks. I went as far as to see an Eye Specialist at Gerogetown University. I actually paid to fly there and have it checked.

Three doctors have told me that I have enar 20\20 vision with excellent retina health. I have had laser retinal mappings done ,etc. It is simply strings of protein that break off and float around in the eye, and they drive you nuts! If it floats the wrong direction, it can block the sight of my gun. I can move my eyes around and move them out of the way, but it is a pain in the butt.

Yea, I've also got floaters. Eye doc, who I am supposed to see again soon for my yearly, says no problem. I have had them for about 5 years. It's funky to see them there and there and there and there, but you get used to it.

Spend the time and money to take care of your eyes, proper sun glasses, hats, etc.

Loosly related, we foster dogs for adoption. we had one in a few weeks ago that was a good dog but it tok him awhile to get used to us, so we didnt pick him up or get in his face. When I finnally could, I was looking in his eyes and could see THRU his driverside eyeball to the back of his eye socket. He had glacoma in that eye and it destroyed his vision in that eye. The vet says he has glacoma in the other eye now. $50.00 bucks a month his new home pays for his medicine.

Take care of your eyes.

Wow, this is wierd... You are not alone my man. about 2-3 days ago I was thinking to myself about one of my floaters, in my right eye. I honestly think this one has been around for about 5-6 months. I was wondering if I needed to see an eye doctor or anything. Glad to hear your docs say they arent a big deal.... I always thought they are broken vessels that eventually make there way out with tears, or a good rub. Humm.. Cant really explain why, or what they are,,, but defintly wanted to chime in and say its not wierd, and you arent alone. Its starting to bug me as well

I have them as well, but only in my left eye.

I've had them since I was a kid. I only notice them about 3 or 4 times per year, but it is very annoying.

I've had the same one in my left eye since I was a kid. It has pretty much stayed the same shape and size.

I've never mentioned it to my eye doctor (I keep forgetting because I don't notice them that much), but since I wear glasses I've had lots of tests done. My latest eye doctor did a whole bunch of new tests and said that my eyes were very healthy.

Thank you for sharing that your doctor says they aren't harmful--that makes me feel better.

Good luck brotha!

Frank

I've got them here too. I've had them since high school. They are annoying as ever and you just have to get used to them. I sure wish there was something to do about them though. They bug the crap out of me.

+1. Some of mine are pigment, apparently my retina is too close to my lense, and the pigment gets rubbed off. Dr. noticed after he did my Lasix.

Mine are so bad that I actually went to a doctor that uses laser to break them up and destroy them. He couldn't help me in my case. I have hundreds of tiny floaters. These things are actually microscopic, but people can see them because the sit so close to the reitna. By the way, you do not see the floater, you actually see the shadow that it casts on your retina. Take your hand and put it above a white table top. If you lift it high enough, it will not cast much of a shadow. Put it closer to the table and the shadow gets darker. That is how floaters work on your retina. The closer to the retina, the darker.

wow--it sounds like you have it worse than anyone else I know.

I would hope that someone would be able to help you.

Did you try searching the internet?
