My Pipes cracked again!

This is the 3rd year in a row that the pipes on the outside of my house
that control the Sprinklers have cracked again for the third year in a row.
I wrapped them this last year in insulation, so this would not happen again.
I go to turn the water on and wouldn't you know it...it just sprays out from a crack in that cheap metal.
Even the plastic pipes cracked.
I'm really getting sick of this.
Is there anyone else that goes thru this?

In my area,

N. Illinois, they blow all the water out of the pipes before winter. The insulation wont do anything if the pipes are at 32 degrees or less for any length of time(nothing to add heat). If you empty the pipes and they still break you may want to use either heat tape or close the system and continually run water through so it warms back up when it comes back into the house. Good luck next winter.

Not seeing your excat setup....let me offer this.

You can't use PVC in direct sunlight, it doesn't have enough UV inhibitor and the sun breaks it down.

Why not build a box with insulation in it over the manifold area going into the ground and put a 100 watt light bulb in a brooder hood inside of it? You can paint it to match, run it off an extension cord during the season you need it, and the box itself will keep the elements off, and help the ground heat to keep it warm.

Just a few thoughts for what it's worth.

Just blow out your pipes, before and after winter. A little bit of prep saves alot of trouble.

Hell, even just turning off the inside cutoff and leaving open the exterior spigot should be enough.

Thanks for all your responses.
I do by the way Winterize it by blowing the water out.
But I went ahead and bought an insulation bag that is especially made for it.
Funny thing is, after I bought it one of the employees said he had the same problem as I did.
He said to just unscrew everything when it starts getting cold and put it in my house until the following summer.
