Effect range on my scope

I was tooling around with my scope because the wife is gone and I dont wanna do the work she left me and was wondering whats the effective range on it. Here are the specs:

Model: 510514
Finish: Black Matte
Description: 4 x 32
Field of View (ft. @ 100 yds): 23.6
Eye Relief (inches): 4.25
Exit Pupil (Millimeters): 8
Weight (ounces): 8.8
Click Value (MOA): 1/4
Adjustment (Range): 70/70
Reticle: Truplex
Parallax Settings: 100 yds

I dont know much about scopes and this one came with the rifle so it cant be that bad but how far would you say its good for?

It's 4x magnifacation, but your question is a difficult one because i tall depends on what the size of the target is...

I'd say you could run this scope at 100 yards if you were a good shot.

Ok. Say the target is a regular NRA? paper target. What are they? 10x10? 12x12? I actually took it out to a 100yrd range with targets that size but I didnt sight it or go get the targets so I dont know how I did but it wasnt terrible to use at that distance.

I wonder what kind of scope I'm going to need for my 10FP out to 400-500yrds?

400-500 should be fine. Try it first and then decide.

With a 9x at 380 yds on a 4" box, I could set the crosshairs on the left edge, the center or the right edge with no problems. Not saying I could hit there, but I could resolve there.

What is a budget if you are looking at other scopes? SWFA has a forum with lots of reviews and comparisons. SWFA prices are not bad, but if you decide on a scope you can sometimes get better prices elsewhere, however their customer service is very good. I have three scopes from them. Pick up Butler Creek caps while you are at it whatever you do, they keep your lenses protected.

Actually I dont know how much I'm going to spend on the glass for the 10FP because I kinda want to get the one with the scope already mounted. Some sort of LEO edition.

You can always try www.samplelist.com They are factory refurbs with full warranty, or were used for a magazine review.
