The wheels of diplomacy spin slowly... The UK & the UN should deal with this and the U.S. should stay out of it. I fear this will be used as a reason for another "premptive war" in the middle east.

I've never cared for Iran anyway, they continually cause problems in the world. It's time to gas up the cruise missles.

What do you mean? The UN already "dealt" with it. Just like the UN "deals" with everything. Hot air.

Diplomacy my ass. What iran did is an act of war. The persians were smart to take Brits and not Americans. They intend to intimidate England into pulling out of Iraq, leaving America effectively isolated and making themselves look more important.

The Brits need to grow a pair and administer some smack-down. And if they ask for our help, even better. It's way past time to get some payback for the Americans killed by iranian weapons.

Did you guys hear Gen Petraeus' response when pressured by the State Department to release Iranian prisoners? It was right up there next to McAuliffe's reply at Bastogne. "Nuts!"

Quote:
The Pentagon received “considerable pressure” from officials in the State department and CIA to release some or all of the Iran-linked prisoners to facilitate discussions between Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Iranian officials. Apparently, Gen. Petraeus sharply disagreed, saying that he intends to hold the prisoners “until they run out of information or we run out of food,” according to our sources who heard these remarks through channels.

I knew I liked that man! Good to see a display of testicular fortitude at that level!

By the way, I might be stepping outside my lane with this one, but...

Perhaps I'm an insensitive bastard, but let me ask a question. Am I the only one wondering what the hell is going on to have British Sailors and Marines doing video and written apologies for Iran to parade in the international news media? Is there a dude just out of the picture with electrodes clamped to their testicles or an AK trained on them? Is there no British equivalent of the Code of Conduct? Articles IV and V certainly come to mind. I remember reciting them to myself for hours and hours during a certain special portion of survival school...

I understand they're in a very uncomfortable and uncertain position, but come on guys. Man up and do your damned country proud instead of bleating like a bunch of friggin sissies. If it turns out I'm wrong and the scenario above is true, then I retract my statement and accept that I'm a miserable ass. If I'm not, upon repatriation that female and a couple of her male counterparts should be tried by courts martial for rendering aid and comfort to the enemy.
Quote:
Article IV

Should I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information nor take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.

Article V

When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability.

I say relocate the UN to Tehran. It's the geographic center of the most contentious region on the planet, so why not make it closer to the assorted dictators/crazies it exists to "deal with"?
