All I gotta say, is screw this! remind me if I ever go on a cruise, to ask them if they have any 50 mile florida coastline trips I can take that only venture 1 mile off shore lol. video is about 3 mins long, but it's a good one. i would not want to be on this ship. http://www.machovideo.com/article.php?article=3836 |

Looks like they were fighting like mad to turn into the swells.

That brings back memories. I was on board the USS Duluth in 81 and we got caught in 40+ft swells. The ship was rolling over 45 degrees both ways. The side cargo hatch was 30ft up from the waterline, but it was swamped by every swell and since the sailors hadn't properly dogged it there was about 100 gallons of water shooting in every swell. Our berth was one deck below the cargo hatch and gravity being what it is, our cabin was rapidly filling with water.

Ugh....pass the Dramamine. Or better yet, just sedate me and I'll ride it out in my bunk.

And that is why I never joined the Navy.
You have to wonder if they knew about the storm ahead of time and either could not outrun it or didn't think it would be that bad. That would have been absolutely one of the scariest things in the world to experience. If I had been on that ship, I never would have gone near water again. |
