Animals have simple minds, and the have simple 'eye for an eye' sense of justice. Specialy cats, If they feel they have been unjustly wronged, they will seek revenge. I could have told those dudes they where about to catch an ass whooping. Leopards are known man eaters, but that dude was lucky in that the cat just wanted some payback.
