It could be, but when you look at recent events you can't help but think that there has to be a little intimidation and trepidation between starting a business that would fall under the jurisdiction of the ATF.

Take a look at what happened to KT Ordinance.

I agree, lots of business are doing this starting around that date. Not near as much overhead, and they usually sell for less even after shipping because of this. We still have around 6 in a 100K city. Add in the Pawn shops that carry/order new its a total of 10 or so just in our small town.

Well, how much more would their pay go up if thats the case. I figure they would have to add a lot of staff also. Then they would come up with some wack gun tax... So no IMO.. Good name however if it were to happen.

Actually a combination of all of the above. I had several friends who were hobby FFL 01's prior to 1994. They paid something like $16.00 to be licensed. Then they raised the fee to $200.00 and all of my friends let their's go because they said it wasn't worth it. So initially, there was a fairly large drop due to the higher fee. Then with the hassle of the mass of new regulations and paperwork, alot of those that did stay got fed up and let their's go.

GM, BPS, etc are able to buy a large quantity and have them on hand so that helps them although it doesn't mean you will necessarily get a better price from them than you can a small dealer. In December of '06, I bought an XD45 4" dark earth from Cabela's in SA. I believe they had it advertised as being "on sale" for somewhere around $450.00 (plus tax) and I got it for $420.00 out the door. If I had had the $20.00 off coupon, it would have been under $400.00. This was cheaper than I could have gotten it using my dealer's license. This same gun is $530.00 (not including tax) at GM and I'm not sure if they have ever put it on sale for less than this. I haven't checked dealer prices lately but I'm pretty sure I could sell at GM's price and make money.

I don't know if the numbers are starting to rise, remain level, or continuing to drop but I got my FFL 01 last year and 4 more people (that I know of) have received their's and opened for business since (one about 1,000 feet from me). The bad thing is that you don't have to necessarily turn your license in, the BATF can take it away if you don't appear to be in business. In a town of 183 people, most of them elderly women and children, business is ssssllllllooooowwww. I'm glad I kept my day job.
