And no, I'm not talking about those who went to boot camp in SD.
I just watched DOOM yesterday evening (not a high priority as you can tell) and damnit, why can't a director at least TALK to a Marine if he's gonna have "Marines" in his movie? I wasn't trying to pick it apart, but some points were so egregious that I just couldn't ignore them. The "Marines" kept calling "Sarge" Sir. "Sarge" referred to himself as the "commanding officer". One of the "Marines" corrected his sister when she said hoo-rah. He told her the pronunciation was "hoo-ah". And "Sarge" kept calling his "Marines" "soldiers". Now, if you aren't a Marine you may not understand why these bothered me, but if you are (or if you have a Marine family member) then you do know. James Cameron did it right in Aliens. He obviously had a Marine consultant cause those guys hit it pretty close to the mark. .

It has been my experience that movies tend to grossly misrepresent everything. The occasions when they're accurate is the exception rather than the rule.
Also, I thought the marines in Aliens were way cooler than any other marines I've seen in any movie.

Interesting because one of the main characters in the TV show Jericho uncovered some fake marines for a lot of the same reasons...

Yup they must have had a Marine there with them or maybe one of the cast members is a Marine.
I like when Mayor Greene told the "GYSGT" he was a discrace to the uniform and yanked his rank insinia off his vest. I hope they have fun walking around in the middile of nowhere without weapons.

This has always bothered me....
In the movie Swat, the "Mayor" goes to report that the bad guys were armed with "AK-47s" But they had a Berrata 92F or something and a little Mac 11..... I hate movies!!! What about the new movie fixin to come out about the Sniper? i think its called Shooter? or something... looks pretty good.

I love how Hollywood has no idea when it comes to military customs and courtesy. Hell most people don't understand that kind of stuff. I get the soldier and hooyah thing all the time. I know they are just being supportive of our men and women in the armed forces but damn.....get it right!
The movie "Shooter" comes out this Friday. I'm interested to see how it turns out. I'm currently reading Point of Impact which the movie is based off of and it is an outstanding book. To the point you don't want to put it down so you can see what "Bob the Nailer" has in store for the BGs. I hope they get it right! O and by the way it is Marines....not marines

AKM - Although I was Army both my brothers-in-law are Marines. It even makes me cringe to see and hear these careless and avoidable mistakes. It's disrespectful.

I like the fact they want to be us (i'm army) in movies, but yea, please just ask someone first... i know the military decides how "realistic" they can be with uniforms, and certain aspects, at least with newer movies, but dang...
like on doom - CO and SARGE? marines are SOLDIERS? please... the only time i ever say HOOAH is making fun of someone's overly-hooah decision, or when in formation and people are watching.

movies that represent a "based on true events" or units do get a lot of things right. its mindless entertainment, fairly low budget, just relax and enjoy the show as a former coast gurdsmen, the guardian was lame, and how do you think I feel during every piss poor cop movie, tv show or anything relating to swat (not to mention the movie SWAT) ughhhhhhhh
