Low budget? $110,000,000 was spent making this turd. But cost has nothing to do with the decision to hire a military consultant if you're doing a movie involving the military.

And given what was done in Aliens (also pure sci-fi) it's hard to justify the obvious lack of effort to give a little respect to our men in uniform when they're using military themes.

I was willing to overlook the stuff like wrong haircuts and calling each other "callsigns" like "Reaper" and "Goat". That's just hollyweird stretching reality for entertainment. But having a Marine sergeant calling his men "soldiers" is more unrealistic than people mutating into monsters due to alien dna on Mars.

I think I would drop kick my SGT. in the nuts if he ever called me a soldier while I was in the Marine Corps. Now after I transition into the Army it will be a diffrent story but I expect it in jest. Once a Marine always a Marine.
