shooting groups

I need to make sure I'm doing this right.

1. 5 rounds, right?
2. how many seconds do you get to fire all 5? Or is it judged by "the quickest and closest?"
2. how far away is your target?

as my gun breaks in, the groups are getting tighter (or i may be getting more comfortable with my XD). I need to make sure I'm practicing the way they do it at competitions.

1. As many shots as you need until a group appears on the target.
2. Is anybody paying attention?
3. Around 30 feet, but be sure to say "yards" instead of "feet".

Also, you get as many targets as you can afford, and you pick the best one of the day.

In all seriousness, it really depends on your goal. If you want to see how good you can get shooting 5 round groups untimed at 100 feet, then go for it. If you want to focus on seeing how fast you can draw and put 3 rounds into the chest and 1 in the head of a silhouette target at 10 feet, then work on that. Think about your goals/purpose, and then be consistent so you can judge your progress.

Well, if I can take my time, I can group 5 rds very tight. Like shoot... count to 2, shoot again. But if I do 1 sec or less between shots, i'm not so tight. I just figured to officialy shoot groups, it needs to be rapid firing.
