Speak English
Why is it every time I call a company, they have foreigners manning the phones. Usually with accents so thick they are BARELY understandable. Then they feed you some BS about how their name is "Bob" or "Jessica" and they're obviously from India. Now mind you I have no problem with foreigners at all, I enjoy the melting pot that is America. Heck my wife is from Indonesia and has an accent as well. It seems if your gonna hire some one to do customer service, particularly over the phone..don't hire some one who has a heavy accent. Just seems like common since to me.
Also, why do I have to "press 1 for English", this is America.

Actually I believe you are speaking to an Indian in India not Indiana. With the wonderful information highway day and age we are living in the call centers have been moved overseas. Though difficult, at times, to understand I have yet to speak to a foreign representative that was anything but polite, courteous, and as helpful as they can be.
I have heard that you can request to speak to a representative in the United States if you so desire.

How about when you go to the ATM and you have to press a button to complete your transaction in English?

I was at the ATM the other day depositing my check and I accidently hit the Espanol button. Luckly I have performed this very transaction once a week for almost 10 years now so I could have probably done it blind folded. It just urkes the hell out of me to see that displayed on the screen.

A year or so ago their was something on 20/20 or similar program about call center type jobs being farmed out to India or other countries. The workers were given American names to use, and were even taught how to speak in the different accents that you'd hear from the various regions of the US.

We speak spanish at home, but it seems a lot of tech service lines are in india now and I have a hard time understanding some of them. I have been around accents my whole life, even a significant number of foreign countries, but I just cannot understand a number of them. They are extremely nice and polite, I have nothing at all against them, but if I can't understand them what difference does that make. I have in fact asked to speak to someone without an accent if I can't understand the person on the line and have yet been transferred to anyone else at all. The only option I have is to hang up and call back until I get someone with less of an accent.
