Enjoy it while you've got it
Just heard from my wife that one of her co-workers is in the ICU with a 10% chance of survival. The poor lady is a Nurse Practitioner around 50 with two 20 something kids. She'd been acting strangely for a couple months and her doctor thought she was having a nervous breakdown from stress (marital problems). She went into the ED yesterday with a headache and she coded in the CT scanner. Turns out she had an aneurysm in her brain that finally blew out.
Here is a woman that is surrounded by health care professionals everyday and no one recognized that her behavior change was a sign of a serious problem (the pressure from the bulging aneurysm was affecting her brain function). These things are very easy to miss or chalk up to stress or the like. If you or a loved one starts behaving erratically or out of character, please take it seriously. |
