Wow, all I can say id this is one more reason that I have no desire to ever even visit Baltimore, or even the state of Maryland.
ffice I don’t say this for the reaction of the LEO to the kid on the dirt bike as much as the reaction of the city to place a zero tolerance on dirt bikes. Heck, around here they don’t care if kids or even adults are on the sidewalks on fifties. As long as it’s 49cc or under, and you’re not causing an immediate danger to the people around you, they leave you alone. And for the record, we have people around here doing over 100mph on sport bikes, riding wheelies, and what not, but we do not immediately label them as hoodlums. Most of them are normal adults like the rest of us, professionals by day and riders by night; I ride with people that range from farmers, to engineers, law enforcement officers, business owners, truck drivers, mechanics, salesmen, nurses, doctors and even an undertaker at the funeral home. Some of them prefer speed and racing, and others prefer stunts, all of them do what they do in a manner that is somewhat controlled, and safe, and most of the seasoned riders do so away from the populace, however, some of the younger kids, and collage students are a little bit more out of control, and don’t pick there spots to be dumb, and get the community in a whole in trouble with the law. It happens every other year around here, the local LEOs follow us and harass us, take down plate numbers, and even photograph bikes and riders when they see us out and in parking lots just gathering to go on a ride or get something to eat. It sucks, but I guess it’s necessary to teach the younger guy to take responsibility for their actions. But they react by arresting those causing problems and those with them at the time, not by assaulting 7yo for ridding a dirt bike. Personally, when I have kids I would much rather them get into dirt bikes and four wheelers than drugs and gangs. And for the record I’m not doubting that there is a problem, I’m just stating that their solution to the problem ranks right up there with Gun bands and all the other stupid things that politicians and law makers come up with. |

I guess this would really get your blood boiling then huh? This happened to a resident of a VERY upscale neighborhood. These properties START around $650K
97-Year Old Lady Handcuffed, Jailed for Unpaid Traffic Ticket April 29, 2004 - A 97-year old woman was arrested, handcuffed (behind the back) and taken to jail in the upscale Highland Park suburb of Dallas last week for having an outstanding warrant for failing to pay a traffic ticket. Harriette “Dolly” Kelton was featured on the Today Show this morning. Police say they did nothing wrong – just followed “the book.” But one of her sons is questioning how the elderly woman was treated. On the Today Show she appeared attractive, mentally sharp and much younger than her age. Her son reported she lives alone, cooks her own meals, goes out to lunch regularly and is involved in the community. Mrs. Kelton says she does not blame the police for arresting her but says they could have been more considerate. She is a former school teacher who has lived in Highland Park for dozens of years. She was stopped for having an expired registration and inspection sticker and a police check of her driver’s license revealed the outstanding ticket. Police held her for two hours before her attorney appeared to have her released on her own recognizance. Kelton's sons include a state district judge and a plastic surgeon. State District Judge David Kelton said it wouldn't be appropriate for him to discuss the arrest. But Dr. Phil Kelton Junior told The Dallas Morning News the family's real beef "is that no real judgment was displayed or actually carried out in this incident." “Our real beef with this is that no real judgment was displayed or actually carried out in this incident,” said Kelton’s son Dr. Phil Kelton Jr., a plastic reconstructive surgeon with Baylor University Medical Center, to the Associated Press. But police spokesman Detective Randy Millican told the AP the officers had no choice but to arrest Kelton’s mother. “A warrant begins with the words ‘You are hereby commanded to arrest,”’ Millican said. “How do you decide who do you arrest and who you don’t? How about at age 90 but not at 91 and up? How about between 17 and 20?”
