Perhaps our anger is misplaced. I was rude, and I apologize for that Gerald.

I can read this thread and it is like a personal journey for me. For I started the thread thinking what I thought was the norm, and now it is different. A pathway if you will of acceptivity.

Our cultures are indeed very different and quite biforcated as I spent my childhood fearing that the country from the north, or south would come to kill me. I have lost many friends and family to senseless violence. I had class in primary school which demonstrated us how to recognize bomb. I left on academic/religious reasons, and pursued degrees here in the US. I have also served under our same flag of this great country.

This post left me to call my children and wish them best again, though upon an empty voicemail. As I expressed in forum, I feel I may have been too harsh on them because I felt that what was done to that child was right. I have never questioned myself like this. What about my wife? My whole life I am relfecting and hysterically reviewing attempting to dislodge some phlegm of evidence of my inadequancies as a father or perhaps even husband.

Again, my apologies to you, I grow very defensive over my heritage and family history as most of us do. And I unilaterally thank you and every one here for my journey in this quite strange epiphany.

Please, we got kids being stupid here all the time and I don't see the deputies hauling off 7 year olds. If the parents are to blame ( I agree on that) why haul a first grader off to jail instead of the adult parent who was there and didn't do a damn thing about it.

Zero Tolerance is idiotic, and these are the end results. While the regular LEO here don't do this, The school PDs here do similary stupid things here on a regular basis, thanks to moronic gutless administrators coming up with stupid Zero tolerance policies. Can't realy blame the cops, as they are just following the rules, but it doesn't make arresting a third grader for having a pencil sharpener any less moronic.

Well, in an enviorment where simple disobedience can get a child killed, I can see where your 'ways' make sense. When I was a child hitch hiking was no big deal, and comon. By the time I was a teenager, things had changed, and hitch hiking, or picking up hitch hikers, was an easy way to get killed. 20 years later, things have just gotten worse. So today I would be correct in punishing children if they tried to hitch hike, but 40 years ago people would see me as a hard a$$ for doing it.

Believe it or not, dirt bikes are a HUGE problem in Baltimore City. Several years back the PD adopted a policy of not chasing the youths on dirt bikes for safety reasons. Then the law was changed, it is illegal to own a dirt bike in the city. That's right, not ride, but be in possession of one. Basically, if the cops see it they can confiscate it.

So how stupid are the parents to give their kid a dirt bike? The parents need to be locked up for stupidity among other things. But instead they will get a nice chunk of change from the lawsuit they will no doubt be filing.

Either way the to say the PD overreacted is an understatement.

That type of treatment is why most kids and young adults DO NOT LIKE or TRUST the POLICE today. I think that it was unnecessary to take him down to the station, book him & interrogate him. A total waist of tax payers money in my opinion. 7 years old COME ON! Handcuffed to a bench and interrogated... I'm not saying he should not get in trouble but from what I read, what they did was uncalled for. When you or I was 7 a good ass whoopin, some tears, and you learned your lesson...

After 4 pages, I was just about to go there........this isn't the backwoods or farm lands - shouldn't have had it at all, but more important was unsupervised.

So what if the bikes are illegal.

Confiscate the bike.

Write it up.

Go on and go back to the city and do some real police work.
