Letter From My Rep

Just got a letter from Jean Schmidt my US Representative from Ohio. She thanked me for writing to tell her that I did not approve of the HR 1022 bill and that she would vote against it if it does come to the floor. She also adds that she is a strong advocate of the 2nd amendment and believes that the people deserve the right to keep and bear arms. OH YEAH!!! She also signed the letter in her own handwriting!!!

Wonderful!!!

Even though my representative is a Republican, and a member of the NRA, who will obviously shoot this down, here is what I wrote him:

Congressman Davis,fficeffice" />>>
>>
I wanted to write to you expressing my concern over HR Bill 1022. I would like to express my deep disapproval of this bill. As you know, our 2nd Amendment is a precious gift from our forefathers. Please do not try and take this bill away from your fellow citizens.
I am sure you would agree that most if not all of the provisions in HR 1022 are not only absurd, but an encroachment on our 2nd amendment rights. Take for example the issue of having only 10 round magazines for the assault rifles. How is this doing anything for our safety? Instead of having 2 20 round magazines, we just have 2 10 round magazines. If somebody was going to go on a shooting spree, they probably would have a lot of magazines anyway, it only takes one second to change a magazine if you are good at it. Is that our safety that the Democrats are trying to give us? A second or two? Not only is this utter foolishness, but it makes people angry enough to just go and buy mass amounts of magazines just out of spite. Rather then leaving it alone.
Is it really the law abiding citizens that are causing all the problems? If not, then why are the Democrats trying to limit us? If a criminal is going to commit a heinous act, then what makes you think they will not break the purposed law on the assault rifles to carry out this act? The law is only as good as the people who follow it. To be frank, it is not the people who are lawfully acquiring these items that they should be worried about. It is the criminals that are getting all of these things on the back market to carry out their acts. So here is how it lays out: lawful citizens who would respect this law if it goes into effect are going to be the ones who suffer. The same crimes will be carried with or without the ban. So, rather then lawful citizens having these weapons, unlawful citizens will have them. Is that what is right and good for this society? What it really does is take away our freedom to acquire and have these items. As an avid gun collector, and also one who carries a gun for my profession, I feel strongly that this bill is a huge waste of time. Many things that I would like to collect, target shoot with, and acquire for lawful use are in jeopardy with this bill. Please do not let this go into effect. If not for the sake of this country, then the sake of our 2nd Amendment and our forefather’s wishes.>>
>>
Sincerely,>>

Here is what it says about his view on the 2nd amdmt.:

Second Amendment Rights

Gun-control laws do not work. Instead, they punish law-abiding citizens who have a Constitutional right to own a gun and protect themselves from the criminal acts of others. As a Life Member of the NRA, Congressman Geoff Davis will continue to strongly support our Second Amendment rights and will oppose any effort to limit those rights. Congressman Davis is a member of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus.

I think HR 1022's chance of passing is starting to get smaller and smaller, especially since taking a huge blow with Washington DC's court ruling last week.

I still have yet to receive a response from my rep., Mary Bono. I noted in the paper today on a recent vote on some bills, she did not vote, so I'm surmising she might be out of state or country and has not viewed my email or her staff is waiting for her to return before answering.
