It isn't too hard but it does take some time. A correct throw does not have you spinning it around your head several times. I am going to try to explain this process, and it might only make sense to me, so let me know if you have any questions. I will be speaking as if I were right handed. Hold the cords in your right hand and the rock in your left. bring the rock shoulder height in front of you and drop it straight down to the ground while also swinging your right hand behind you. When your right hand is behind you, start to swing the rock out to your right and in front of you above your head (in a counter clockwise direction as if the clock was on the ground). You have essentially brought your right arm back to the position as if you were throwing a baseball. Then all you have to do is swing the rock forward in the same motion as throwing a ball.

If done correctly you will always have your windage correct, it will then take some practice on dealing with elevation. The whole purpose of swinging the rock around your body is to gain momentum and build up speed. You only have to swing the sling ONCE around your body. Make sure the cords stay taut through the whole motion.

This made perfect sense as I sat here and wrote the instructions, I doubt anyone will be able to make sense of it though. Try it without anything and do it in slow motion before you try it for real. There is potential for hitting yourself in the back of the head. Again, once you get the mechanism down, you can throw it similar to a baseball, and then you have to practice on the release of the loose end to get your distance. Make sure you have lots of room, because you will throw rocks behind you, to the side of you and straight up in the air.

let me know if I can clarify anything. Good luck and be safe.

P.S. to my knowledge this is the "correct" way to use a sling and when practiced it can be very accurate. Accurate enough to hit neighbors' houses and cars on the other block

Alright you've hooked me. From wikipedia i found www.slinging.org. This page
has different methods on it, the one doesn't look like it's on there but the first one sounds kind of similar. This one looks like what you were describing.

Here is one of the simple slings, I'm gonna try to make one I'll post pictures hopefully tomorow since I was planning on going to the range anyways.

Some of your links were not working but I was able to find the site. The method that I was describing was closest to the last one. (#5 straight back, vertical ration, overhand release) The only difference is I don't usually start spinning it before I bring it around my body. Either way all of those methods work, but my personal favorite is the way I described it, only because I feel I can get more power, and for me it is easier to aim since I am throwing overhand rather that side arm. You can see however that he is pretty accurate at hitting his target.

Oh, and in case I lost everyone in my earlier description of how to throw, watch one of those videos and then try to decribe the motions. Man that was hard.
