This is interesting...
The wife went with me this year deer hunting in south east Ohio. The old fellow I hunt with was telling us around the fire one night that he had gotten quick glances of a Mountain Lion in the woods while turkey hunting. He has been hunting those woods for 30 years and the local guy up the road said he had seen it too. I guess he has even lost a few dogs in the middle of the night to "something". Now this guy wouldnt tell campfire stories, hes the kind of guy that only shares facts about his time in the woods. Needless to say, we always loaded up before we left the camp and headed into the woods. I also make it a poit to carry at least a handgun while scouting the area, Im REALLY glad I had it this year when I went (I carried my .40 Tactical in a thigh holster). While hunting this year too, two of the guys came across some rather large bear tracks, another new species to the area, at least in this day and age. We plan to go camping down there this summer with friends and think my wife intends on carrying the .40 Tactical and Im going to carry my new 1911, loaded HOT. I would carry the big .44 but its alot slower on followup shots. I also keep a shotgun loaded in camp and close at hand.

His idea of what dinner is might be the problem.

He should have tried to put it in an old Chevelle and tried to drive with it like Ricky Bobby. Or just tried to pet it.

the cougar was thinking how yummy you would tast and how much her cubs would like regurgitated you for dinner.

In all seriousness i live in metro detroit and not more than 7 miles from the detroit border in well developed areas that have been built up for 40 years there are cougar, bob cat, mountain lion sightings. In 2005 there was a bunch of them and around 15 mile rd in sterling heights there was live video of one. Sterling heights isnt a small town in BFE its over 80,000 people and surrounded by other towns of good size. I have never seen one myself.

Black bears are making a real comeback here in the lower pennisula, as are coyote. My local golf course in the heart of one of the nicest neighborhoods in one of detroits oldest suburbs (grosse pointe) has two coyotes as we speak, the cops are under orders to shoot on sight, and they have been here since 2004. I think they ran out of rabbits as they are attacking dogs and cats now

grey wolf will be on its way out as soon as its protection is lifted. from the way it seems, they do not want to have a balance with them. as long as there are about 200 wolves they'll be happy
