Woman, 60, shoots carjacking suspect

WFAA's Cynthia Vega's report

A 60-year-old woman confronted an armed teenager trying to steal her car, wrestled away his gun and shot him in the stomach Tuesday evening outside a Frisco apartment complex, police said.

WFAA-TV
The suspect demanded keys to his victim's car.

The 19-year-old was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Originally listed in critical condition, he was in stable but guarded condition on Wednesday, police said.

The woman was not injured.

Frisco police Sgt. Gina McFarlin said the woman was getting out of her car about 7:45 p.m. in the 9300 block of Wade Boulevard when the man approached and demanded her keys.

The woman refused, and the man pulled a small handgun. During an ensuing scuffle, the woman gained control of the gun, shot the carjacker once and dropped the weapon. He then picked it off the ground and fled on foot. Police found the man in a nearby apartment complex and recovered the firearm.

"We don't recommend it," Sgt. McFarlin said of the woman's decision to confront her attacker. "Always the safe thing to do, unless you're in fear of imminent bodily injury, is to comply."

That last statement form the cop makes no sense, it sure seems to me she should have feared bodily injury with a gun in her face!!!!!

Sgt. McFarlin is an idiot living in a different time. Car carjackers are quite happy to shoot you now-a-days.

I carry my XD45 ACP Tactical, in a SuperTuck from CB. Very comfortable, easy to hide, easy to draw, and easy to reholster.

Looking for an HDR*, either an AR-180B, or Kel-Tec FBR.

Yes comply with the BG so he can shoot you at HIS leisure. Screw that. If there is one thing I've learned is to fight for you life while you can because more than likley the BG is taking you somewhere to kill you.

The only thing that would have made this better is if the nice old lady pulled her own piece and plugged him without bothering with the scuffle. The good guys (gals) win one.

As for this, I've actually asked a couple police folks on another forum on a previous occasion, and they explained this statement or others like it are almost universally given at the scene of stuff like the above incident because the official department policy is to recommend doing your best to avoid escalating an already dangerous situation. If you get many of these same officers by themselves and "off the record", their personal philosophies are more in line with the objections raised in this thread. However, when they're on camera or recorder, it's toe the official party line.

First were the native Americans ("savages"), then the black slaves (only "partly human"), then the Jews and gypsies in Hitler's Europe ("parasites on society"), and now America's unborn (also "not fully human"). Save the Americans--end abortion now.
