SE Michigan CCW/CPL Instructors - what's your experience?
I did a search for peoples' experiences with CCW/CPL instructors in Michigan, and didn't find anything. So...
Who here has gotten CCW/CPL training in Southeast Michigan, and what was your experience like? I want to hear the good and the bad; why you would or would not go to a certain trainer/facility. Whattaya got for me?

tale of 2 trainings...
i had CCW training for my job (parole agent) and before that for general carry. they were night and day in terms of what was learned and the amount of actually training that is useful for carrying a concealed weapon. in the general CCW class i felt that the in-class lecture from the law enforcement officer was good and informative...but the goodness ended with him. the rest of the class felt rushed and like they were just trying to get us through it. i was sitting there thinking, i hope know one here things that they actually know about carrying a gun now?!?!?! the range time was about 50 rounds only and that was really poor as well, actual class time was about 4 hours (max). dare i say it but to me it seemed like the instructors were just out to get paid...not really too concerned about education. on the other hand, field agent CCW training was NICE!!! four days of training and we shoot about 2000 rounds over the course. we covered everything including legal issues, use of force, shooting from cover, clearing, nite shooting, tactical loading, cleaning/field stripping, combat situations and more... i know it was for work but i couldn't help to think the difference in the 2 classes. there are classes that people can and most definitely should take to get better skills. but im sure that many dont go further than the basic CCW class just to get the certification. its really scarry when you think about it. had i not rec'd the training i did for my job i would have definitely invested some money on more CCW education. i spend many weekends training/teaching many co-workers (different job now) on proper gun skills, most of them after they have already taken a CCW course or even recieved there CPL. i hope to get NRA certification soon so i can do my own classes and hopefully really teach/train concealed carry skills.

My son and I took ours at the firing line in Westland and from my exp. it was a top rated class, great instructors and good range training, I say this because one of my other sons and my brother and his son took their classes at different places and they were very limited in their knowledge of the laws. The firing line was pricey @ 175.00 but I felt I got my money's worth, whereas my brothres and sons class was 75.00 and only 1 eight hour day, mine was 2 days 1 8 hour and 1 4 hour day on the range with about 250 rounds fired.
