Court Room FIGHT!

He decides to take on the officer at about the 2:30 mark...

I did not know that they had that many officers that close in a court room, jeez.

very poor decision on the defendants part. its a court room, there are going to be city marshals, police officers and corrections officers all right around the corner.

Idiot...
Some people have no idea of proper conduct in a court room... this isn't an argument in a bar, you can't talk back to a judge let alone start a fight in a court room.

He got what he deserved.

In the years I've been doing this job, I've seen several very tense situations turn ugly very quickly. Usually there are two of us in the court room at any given time, and our first priority is the saftey of the presiding judge, court clerk, court reporter, ADA and defense lawyers, as well as the general public who may be present. In very few cases, we have had to intervene in the business of the court to control a situation which was getting out-of-hand. In these cases, we were able to restrain the individuals involved and get them out of the court room and into a holding cell for disposition by the judge.

Some people who come into court get very upset by the proceedings and our presence there will often be enough to restore calm to the room. Sometimes not. Most of the deputies I saw in this clip looked to be either retired LEOs or court staff, about what we have on our court campus (only a lot fewer than charged into the room! ). The active LE agency (the Sheriff's Deprt) is a good 5 minutes away. These things happen very quickly and you can't always tell which individual will blow up in any given case.

Training pays off here as well as on the street - but it's surprising how much you forget from your active duty days if you've been doing the inside job for any length of time.......doen't take much to remind you that you're the "guy on the spot"......
