Look on the internet to get an idea... I don't have the sites in front of me, but I'll bet someone will post some good ones here in a few. It will vary from state to state - and you have to honor the laws in the state you are in even if they allow your own state's CCW.

I don't see why any state would allow a CCW and then tell you that you can't have it loaded (one in the hole). If you want to carry a gun it better be loaded because otherwise you arn't going to have the time to get it loaded when the chips are down, God forbid that ever happens. Then your XD9 will be scooped up and on the streets after you get taken out. Everybody knows that packing a loaded gun is a big deal and if you have to use it it will be at ranges way to close for comfort in a split second. It will also turn out to be a real bloody mess and you'll hopefully (if you don't get hit) have to watch the bad guy take his last breaths on this Earth.
However, I think the CCW thing is a little blow out of control in most areas. Where I live in Northern California they are very liberal about handing them out and I don't know anybody who hasn't been approved. It is a requirement to have one to work at the gun shop where I shoot at the indoor range. Everyday people make life and death choices when they get in their car to drive down the freeway. Durring the last decade between 40,000-45,000 people are killed in car crashes every single year. I think if you are a stable, reasonably responsible and intelligent person without a criminal record you should be allowed to carry a gun. It sure would make people think twice about office shootings if they realized that there were going to be people shooting back. In Oakland CA which is a few hours away from where I live the number of shootings has really spiked this year. I read about a guy who got stuck up going to a barber shop and he got shot in the back before he could turn around. Then the guy tried to finish him but the gun jammed and the the guy lived. Another guy was in his van and a car let loose with a 30 round AK-47 clip and a 20 round Mac-90 clip. He got hit by something like 12 rounds and lived. Oakland has a really good hospital for treating gun shot wounds because they see it so often. Bottom line, if you do find yourself in a situation like that you might only have just a second to do something about it. Also military and police forces carry with one in the hole every single day all day and they don't have any trouble. The XD is a really great gun design and I don't think you'll have to worry about a discharge you didn't plan for. Personally I would love to see everybody just get along like the ideal socialist utopia. However, that isn't realistic in our lifetimes so I think we should understand our risks and plan for ahead. |
