Stillwater police kill man holding girl at knifepoint
wow sounds like maybe he needed a fix or something
http://www.startribune.com/467/story/919147.html " Stillwater police shot and killed a man who was holding a 7-year-old girl hostage at knifepoint Friday night, police said.Acting Police Chief Craig Peterson said the shooting occurred four minutes after two veteran officers arrived at a two-story home in the 900 block of Myrtle Street W. The officers shouted "drop the knife" at the man, who was related to the girl, Peterson said. The man refused to let go of the girl, and the officers fired when they thought he was about to cut her, Peterson said. The situation took place in an upstairs bathroom. The girl was unharmed. The suspect had broken into the house, and a woman there called 911 shortly after 7 p.m., Peterson said. The 57-year-old Stillwater man was known to police, but they did not release his name Friday night. Peterson said police had had contacts at the house previously, including in the past few weeks, but he could provide no further details late Friday. Both officers fired their weapons. Firefighters and paramedics tried to revive the man, but he died at the scene, Peterson said. The officers have been placed on administrative leave, as is customary in such cases. This was the first officer-involved shooting in Stillwater that Peterson, a 24-year veteran with the force, could recall. As investigators combed the scene late Friday with flashlights, a neighbor, Carol Roettger, said "I'm just flabbergasted." She and her husband, Al, had been out at the time of the shooting and came home to see yellow police tape around their home and their neighbors'. The house where the shooting occurred was brightly decorated for the holidays, with twinkling lights, a Santa flag and red bows on a white picket fence. The case is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Stillwater police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office."

Stillwater is not the quiet little river town anymore.

My bad...
I read the title of the post and thought it was Stillwater, Oklahoma. I was going to say that this is nothing new. But since it wasn't where I thought, who knows. I don't know anything about Stillwater, MN.

And the moral is...
Don't hold little girls hostage at knifepoint. Bonus points for the fact that the taxpayers didn't have to pay for hospitalization, incarceration, and lengthy trial with multiple appeals. .

The moral of the story is....
Learn to shoot with both eyes open so you can keep a good aim at the bad guy's nose and still be able to see what's going on.

The moral should be "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight". Way to go Stillwater PD.
