James' site says, "Rub it in, wipe off excess."
A quick search revealed these results. Laquer stick question...help It's recommended that you completely clean and degrease the areas that you'll be inlaying. Some recommend Gunk brand carb cleaner, but I just use regular brake cleaner. This is what James recommends: Quote:
I'm happy with my Crayon job, but maybe some day I'll use a laquer stick and make it permanent.

If you use the lacquer stik, just remember that the ACTUAL drying time for it is up to 24 hours. If you rub it in (circular motion) and are sure to get all the etched lettering filled, you can't wipe the excess off for at least 13 hours!!! Or you'll just gouge the lacquer out of the letters.
I did mine 3 times until emailing the manufacturer of the lacquer stiks. They said it's a 16-24 hour total drying/curing time. I had only been allowing 3 hours until trying to wipe off the excess, only to just wipe my efforts away in the first place. Use a piece of copy paper so your wiping surface will be smooth and not cut into the lettering. A SMALL amount (half drop) of oil on the paper may help get the excess off the slide, but don't use too much oil, or you'll soften the lacquer. Overall, patience is key.
