You betcha. He's undergoing a Robin Hood-esque romanticization campaign in this country by the liberal left for (as they see it) standing up to the evils of Big Capitalism, The Man, or (insert '60's counterculture icon here). Just another militant Marxist revolutionary who's good and dead.

Ask any kid wearing one of those t-shirts.
My money says they have no idea what that guy did or who he was or when he did it. |

The movement he started created missery throught Latin America, and the after effects are still being felt. Things were bad long before Guevara, but he made them a lot worse, both directly from actions by commies, or by the reactions of goverments to the threats of comunism. In short, he is the Poster boy for violent comunism, a movement that has nearly destroyed life in Latin America.

I think Miguel said it best, but yes, I feel that Ernesto "Che" Guevara is the most white-washed figure in modern history.
Plastered on t-shirts, worn by "rebellious" types like musicians and actors that probably have not a clue as to the actions of the man on their clothing. His image, looking defiant in his black beret (on my avitar) is the international symbol for revolution...especially leftist styled revolution. He was born to a wealthy family in Argentina and actually grew up in quite a bit of priviledge, but after he became a doctor and travelled throughout South America (made famous by the book/movie "The Motorcycle Diaries") it is said he became enraged with the inequities of society and became a Marxist. After helping Castro bloodily take over Cuba from Batista, he went on ot Bolivia and yes, was assasinated/exocuted in what some said was a CIA set-up. I have read some of Guevara's writings and like Marx, what he SAYS makes sense, but would never work in the real world. I found it hypocritical that Guevara, who wrote about inequities and hardships, wanted to stiffle the populance of Cuba as Castro and he did after the revolution. Like many proponents of communism, Guevara wished to live like a capitalist (while railing on against capitalism) and have his populance live like communists in squalor. The man was no hero and committed several bloody acts on the way to toppeling Batista in Cuba as well as the struggle to bring communism to Bolivia. He was as ruthless as Stalin and Lenin and its truly awful that these kids immortalize this man as they do on clothing. I would be willing to bet that most people wearing Gurvara shirts would not last 5 minutes under a govt. of his style of rule. It would be like you and I wearing shirts with Hitler or Stalin...Guevara was no hero or symbol for anything that remotely resembles positive change. - Brickboy240

He in Castro did not get along once Castro had firm control on the country.
He was sent to other latin america countries to train rebels and attempt marxist revolutions in bolivia. Later, when he seen as too powerful to castro, he was sent to the Congo to train rebels there..
